But unfortunately, even the American Green Party is now coming to the realization that a viable 2 state solution is probably impossible given the extent of Israeli "facts on the ground" in the Occupied Territories (including E Jerusalem/Al Quds). It's likely now that the only realistic solution is a (hopefully secular) one state solution in which citizen rights are universal, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

I don't see this one-state idea as realistic. There are still too many extremists on both sides trying to push the other side into the sea. I think a two-state solution should be tried first. "Facts on the ground" are a scam: Israel just has to bite the bullet and pay for closing down every occupied territory settlement. Then Palestine can be established, and have an economic reconstruction plan. After years of peace and prosperity, then Israelis and Palestinians could vote on a merger.

As to your vote idea, I (and I bet most Palestinians) don't trust Fatah, Israel, the Quartet or the Arab League to allow the Palestinians to have a fair vote any more than I/they trust Israel's own kleptocracy (think Olmert's on-going corruption scandal). We need to change U.S. policy from the current Israel-right-or-wrong status to an objective stance. Israel would then be obliged to dismantle the settlements and relocate the wall back to Israel Proper, not with wishes but with construction crews. :-) Set up a truck corridor to connect Gaza with the West Bank, or a free trade route via Sinai and Jordan. And if there's currently so much distrust, I don't see how a one-state could hold together right now.
