  • Very nice tiled floor there

  • Do you have a concrete subfloor? I do, just curious if I need a product like ditramat. Thought applying thinset and tiles directly to autoleveling compound was ok. I'm new and tackling a job, very excited, this just had me wondering.

Thanks for your videos, after watching your's and seeing how the product works I'm much more confident.

  • My subfloor was tile over mud over wood joists, with areas of plywood repair.

Ditramat is to prevent cracks in the subfloor causing the tiles or grout lines to crack. Auto-leveling compound won't prevent cracks.

If concrete has cracks already, you definitely need the ditramat. Even if there aren't cracks, it's cheap and easy insurance.

    Good luck!

  • @steveandfamily Thanks for the reply, glad you mentioned the part about the concrete floor having cracks. It's not a crack, just happens to be a seam that is running down the middle of my subfloor the length of the house. What a great place to put a seam I might add lol. I'll see if I can find a place that sells that ditramat locally. Great job on the finished product by the way. Very impressive.

  • is the ditramat to give the thinset strength against the subfloor settling or flexing?

  • The ditramat is to prevent cracking caused by the subfloor settling etc. It's much easier than putting down fiber cement panels. Good luck.

  • Hope you had fun back buttering all those cuts over that Ditra crap but at least its straight!!

  • Nice job Steve
