Yeah it seems to be the child of Meanstreet. They also used some ideas from She's A Woman for Meanstreet. We're witnessing the evolution of a song.I think it's great to hear/see this stuff.
@hlygoly1 : On an episode of That Metal Show, Michael Anthony did say that Voodoo Queen was the original song. For some reason, I guess Eddie (and/or the rest of the band weren't) wasn't to happy with it. So evolved to what was released as Mean Street.
I have early Van Halen bar performances as well. The sound quality isnt that good but either respond or thumbs up if you'd be interested in hearing them
@dlechler1 I wasn't clear enough in my post, I mean I know it is Mean Street's riff, but that I like this version better than Fair Warning' Mean Street, does that make sense? sorry about that bro, either way Van Halen is my favorite rock and or metal band, they fucking rock!
Wowee! I have known this song for 28 years as Mean Street. Used to listen to it when I was 11 or 12. Home alone, volume up to ten. Thanx for this man!
Dude...first time I have heard this song. I have been listening to VH for 30 years and this is some surreal sh*t. Mean Street opening Hot For The Teacher closing...cool. Where did you get this song?
these are from the warner bros demos. they recorded 30 plus songs. it was much better than the gene simmons demos coz they were playing on kiss's equipment. eddie said it was very alien. he had his own guitar for these songs. 1977 right before the first album came out.
Former studio people who helped to record these songs get a hold of master tapes and release them without the bands permission, but this song is amazing
This is home....... This is "Meanstreet"

Even on those early demos, Eddie had some gnarly tone that just cut through the mix!

mean streets copied off of this.

This sounds like a mix of "light up the sky" and 'MEAN STREET" actually. In the bridge and the chorus kinda sounds like the former...

Sounds like Eddie wrote all his riffs in the 70's and re arranged them into songs in the 80's.

awesome solo! Yeah all they have to do is get a different intro and re-record the song and it would be a hit!
