  • This is home....... This is "Meanstreet"

  • My favorite song when I used to see them at The Whiskey!

  • Love it!

  • Yeah it seems to be the child of Meanstreet. They also used some ideas from She's A Woman for Meanstreet. We're witnessing the evolution of a song.I think it's great to hear/see this stuff.

  • I like this version better

  • mean streets was the better choice of the two

  • This song is fucken awesome ! Hell yeah ! Rock and Roll !

  • is that curly of the three stooges singing?

  • This is badass!

  • They end it like hot for teacher..

  • This kix ass!!

  • who cares when he wrote the riff. if's fucking awesome. i like this version as much as the other it's fricking awesome

  • @BeDrunken i care

  • Really?... Ok

    But mean streets was better

  • HEY DUMMIES!!! This is MEAN STREET!!!

  • @hlygoly1 : On an episode of That Metal Show, Michael Anthony did say that Voodoo Queen was the original song. For some reason, I guess Eddie (and/or the rest of the band weren't) wasn't to happy with it. So evolved to what was released as Mean Street.

  • @hlygoly1 haha, how shiny is your helmet?

  • if you notice the very end is the riff from hot for teacher....talk about cut and paste

  • Even on those early demos, Eddie had some gnarly tone that just cut through the mix!

  • Way too many good songs!!!

  • I absolutely love the chorus to this version.

  • the ending is like hot for teacher

  • I have early Van Halen bar performances as well. The sound quality isnt that good but either respond or thumbs up if you'd be interested in hearing them

  • @bornbrit777 are u serious of course we wanna hear em..

  • This came before Mean Street and yes, this version is far better than the finished product.

  • mean streets copied off of this.

  • This sounds like a mix of "light up the sky" and 'MEAN STREET" actually. In the bridge and the chorus kinda sounds like the former...

  • @toadman842 yeah, and a little bit of Everybody wants Some, with dave's little squeals . . . sick cut, i wish they would've left it like this

  • meh, I like "mean street" much more.

  • Glad it made it to mean street!I like this none the less, but i dig the guitar intro to mean street on fair warning.

  • Simply Outstandin' VH, with 100% Adrenalin Kick ~ HOOAH!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • I love finding the old demos stuff like this and the 77 demo version of house of pain is amazing

  • I too like this better than the final product.

  • The greatest American rock band ever.......period. Even their demos kick everything elses ass that out now.

  • The Bass kicks some tail in this song

  • This is one badass riff, I like this better than Mean Street, still both are great!

  • @bbutters2 It is Mean Streets

  • @dlechler1 I wasn't clear enough in my post, I mean I know it is Mean Street's riff, but that I like this version better than Fair Warning' Mean Street, does that make sense? sorry about that bro, either way Van Halen is my favorite rock and or metal band, they fucking rock!

  • I'm pretty sure this was their demo to get them started or something like that, heard it somewhere

  • 5 stars

  • cool, david is awsome

  • man!!, nice, mean street is one of my favorite VH songs!!

  • @188metalhead881 mine to

  • Interesting...I must say I like the Fair Warning record--it's my favorite VH!--but this is a very interesting version, a whole different flava

  • gonna be the victim of a fuckin voo voo voo voo voo doo dood ooooooooo queen!

  • VH Fan Extremis - And Yes, I have met my Voodoo Queens. Song rocks.

Much kudos for posting this rare gem!

  • Wowee! I have known this song for 28 years as Mean Street. Used to listen to it when I was 11 or 12. Home alone, volume up to ten. Thanx for this man!

  • nice prototype for Mean Street; I love the way VH songs evolve - Now record Big Trouble already lol!!!!

  • Dude...first time I have heard this song. I have been listening to VH for 30 years and this is some surreal sh*t. Mean Street opening Hot For The Teacher closing...cool. Where did you get this song?

  • Sounds like Eddie wrote all his riffs in the 70's and re arranged them into songs in the 80's.

  • these are from the warner bros demos. they recorded 30 plus songs. it was much better than the gene simmons demos coz they were playing on kiss's equipment. eddie said it was very alien. he had his own guitar for these songs. 1977 right before the first album came out.

  • awesome solo! Yeah all they have to do is get a different intro and re-record the song and it would be a hit!

  • This song ends the same way that Hot For Teacher does.

    When was this demo recorded?

Was it after Women And Children First?

  • these are all demos from either '76 or '77

  • Mean Streets from Fair Warning

  • whats the verse part from?? i know ive heard it in a different song

  • cool, thanks

  • Former studio people who helped to record these songs get a hold of master tapes and release them without the bands permission, but this song is amazing

  • Van Halen shouldn't have a reason to get upset if the masters got leaked because they ROCK

  • How do you get all these unreleased songs?

  • Mean Street?
