I happen to be an agnostic athiest (yes they are mutually exclusive adjectives btw) but I have no problems with people of faith, just so long as they keep their faith to themselves because no one has a right to impose their beliefs on anyone, especially from the 'pulpit' of Congress.

It rather explicitly refers to the Judeo-Christian deity. When Christians say "God," they don't mean Allah. They mean Yahweh. This sort of thing is clearly a violation of the First Amendment, if not Article 6 of the Constiution.

"In God we trust" is a fucking stupid motto for a democracy. It's a motto for a theocracy or a monarchy. "E pluribus Unum" is the real motto. "In God We Trust" is some red scare bullshit left overs, and I would no more acknowledge congress' authority to change the motto then I would acknowledge their authority to change the constitution. These things were set forth by the continental congress, which trumps everything but the constitution.
"Out of many, one" is a motto for a democracy.
