Alli was not a real hard hitting boxer; of his 70 fights he won 52 (only 21 k.o.s,) Chavez knew of his relatively lack of power and acted accordingly. Alli represented little danger to Chavez. He was probably lucky that the fight did not go the distance. Alli actually killed someone n the ring (after or before?)

He had 84 victories when he beat Alli. 84! If anyone was nearing the end of their prime it was Chavez. The early stoppage? dude the ref did Alli a favor. The fight was over and the victory was Chavez' it was better that Alli didn't get hurt more.
