It's strange how Wren usually has the most attack power but does the least damage in most cases. Here against the last boss he seems to deal a nice chunk of damage. Also in the 2nd generation Force weapons seem more effective than Lacon. I remember observing this as a kid. But damn I would rent this at my local video store time after time. Ahh... the good old days.

This game definitely didn'have the depth of ps2 or 4 but that's what happens when you have 3 generation span with 4 seperate endings, corners are bound to be cut somewhere. This was the first of the ps games I played and I still have the music stuck in my head, I mapped every dungeon in the game when I was a kid and I still enjoy mapping out games to this day. I'm working on beating the first of the series but it's so boring; someone needs to update these games to be more appealing

Lol @ the penis guys. I remember this game and I thought it was so corny, especially the monsters. Moos? Carder? Goatking? Those weird floating head guys (floor above the one featured in the video)? The only human monsters faced apart from a few bosses are int he last dungeon. I wonder how a level 54 Rhys would handle Dark Force? Level for level the third generation heroes pwn, however.

Man, this brings back memories of being young, playing through this game. Dark Force was such a bastard back then. I lost count of how many times I tried to beat him, and the joy I felt when he finally dropped. Hearing that tune kick in makes me feel like i'm 12 all over again.

Hmmm, No Siren's Shot? Played through this epic games dozens of times and I don't remember a "Nei Shot". Can you explain? Also, this was one of the first epic games I ever beat, whereafter I set the controller down and reflected on that nostalgic afterglow, where you review all the epic and tragic events that you got to play through. Awesome game.

@creepsomber Nei Shot is the upgraded Siren's Shot. Everyone has a special weapon that you upgrade to a Nei weapon.

@creepsomber once u find orakio sword, in the underwater ruins in landon,miun claw in the desert arida, layas bow and lunes slicer u go to sage isle by water using wrens aqua parts and finally talk to the old geezers in the cave on that isle. Then they will turn into NIE WEPS

Only complaint I had about this game is kind of displayed in this vid. I hated enemies with really long casting animations that would use group spells like Gra/Zan/Tsu. Loved all the PS games including 3, despite the hatred 3 received by other players of the earlier series.

Also only 2 saves on the original cart meant if you wanted all 4 groups at the end you had to replay quite a bit and couldn't hold all 4 end groups anyway.

Wow the nostalgia of it all!!! took me 1 month to go through all the domes and follow one part of the story line. i miss the music!!! just awesome!!! Darkforce took 2 hours for me to beat just learning the fight! This was gaming!!!

@ChrisBurr555555 They aren't underleveled. They start at level 1 when everyone else is already a high level, but have high stats and level up slowly to make up for it. So they're still about as strong as the higher level characters.

This Dark Force Scared the crap out of me when I was young. Being a kid seeing a nasty face in its croch too, It wasn't by far my favorte game either. All the music is like a Walz type. The battle system is a pain in the ass for me. Still, Great memories to have.

I think the same way. I have a short bit of it play on one of my NDS fighters. To me, it's the most fitting. The tone is dark and foreboding, which fits well with a demonic power that can cause war and pure hatred.

Geez! That combat music is HORRIBLE! Actually, the entire combat presentation is awful. If this game had used the PS2/PS4 combat system, things would have probably been a lot different for Phantasy Star's red-headed stepchild.

Notice how Dark Force is completely symmetrical. All they did was make part of his body and then reverse it so they didnt have to draw the whole thing.

They really cut a lot of corners with this game.

While I will admit 3 isn't as good as Phantasy Star 1,2, and 4 it still was better than most Rpgs at that time and even some latter ones, hell I would rather be stuck playing Phantasy Star 3 for the rest of my life then the overated bag of fluff that was Final Fantasy 8. And for the record I do like Final Fantasy games just not 8, X, X-2, and XI

Although, I always thought Dark Force was highly intimidating in this game the challenge was never there in my opinion. I haven't played PS4 yet but the challenge of Dark Force in part 2 was incredibly hard because of the way he was able to turn your allies against you.

If you get the chance, play PS4. While Dark Force doesn't have the possession skill anymore, he makes up for it with crippling attacks. Plus, you face him more than once throughout the game.

But I recall Dark Force's hands slowly rising and then his main body appearing, or some shit like that. Does it depend on which path you take? Or do I really need to go play this game again?

I'm pretty sure it's the same for all four paths. I've only beaten the game with Sean and Adan, and they were the same, so I don't think it'd be any different for Aron or Crys.
