What a nice guy, I like his approach and there are a number of ways he reminds me of Valerie Fedorenko. Affable, humble, honest and funny, this is a great post and to see such an elite athlete train this candidly is gold.
I wonder if he says "another warmup" between sets to psyche himself up and keep him thinking it's easier than it really is? Beast of a lifter. His first set is my max working set lol.
It's great seeing someone doing a "heavy" workout and enjopying it, without a bench shirt and 6 guys having to massage his ego. Just from the video clips it seems he has the ability, and the personality to go with it. And the comments he comes up with, makes for a fun and enjoyable workout atmosphere...all with being a very serious lifter. Keep up the good work, and GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!
you know, i used to think that humans didnt deserve being the most powerful beings on the planet just becuase were smarter, but watching this and jake sincity makes me feel like thats wrong. ID LIKE TO SEE ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS PLANET BEND STEEL LIKE TRUE MEN CAN! >:DDDDD
@ATRnotalone Its not much of a shirt its this thing thats goes across your chest and behind each elbow. Google it for a pic its hard to explain. Think of it as wearing 3 pairs of tight jeans while squating its like a spring the shoots you back up.
what a monster, i'd pay to see a 500 bench, let alone 600 for reps. what he should did is something you'll never see at an ordinary gym or pretty much anywhere else lol
@mandora45 RAW and geard total different things, without training with a shirt he wouldnt even bench shirted his raw weight but i guess he prefers training raw anyway
Henderson is the current world record holder for heaviest drug tested raw bench press. Big James Henderson’s record setting lift was 711 lbs.[6] and it occurred on July 13, 1997 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during an IPF/USPF sanctioned event.
This guy is awesome, no two ways about it. Biggest raw bencher ever, although Mendelson did more, he didn't pause it. Henderson owns the biggest paused raw bench record, still. Total class act, and great sense of humour.
I still have this workout on Powerlifting Video Magazine (VHS). This is one of my favorite workouts to watch. His comment on toning his workout around his spotters is PRICELESS. This is what a real bencher looks like. He's a CLASS ACT and the true SHIRTLESS SHERIFF. You are still THE MAN!!!
To thin this man is using anabolics, or as I like to call it "bodybuilder's balls" is absurd; raw strength anf feats such as this IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE. Hell, there was a man by the name of Paul Anderson who also lifted quite huge amount of weight without the assistance of todays straps, bench shirts, etc.
Speak for yourself, say.... I'm weak, Ive always been weak, and I always will be weak, and "I" need to cheat in order to win!! If you want to find "Fault" look in the mirror!!!
Hollywood Henderson is the UNDISPUTED 'KING' of the Bench, Raw, and Drug free, I would have given Anything to test myself against this guy in competition!! With me being on the west coast, and him being from Florida, it never happened, But speaking from someone who knows, he was the BEST EVER!!! I will be posting more vids of me, when I was young, so you can see for youselves, I'm not just makin this stuff up!!
This guy is actually a genius when it comes to weightlifting, I have watched his other videos and he is very intelligent. I wonder if he is this good in squat and deadlift as well.
I've never seen a guy like this.....he looks like he put football shoulder pads on, and put a shirt on over that.....only problem, he doesn't have pads on!
@NWpowerhouse85 I do! History has had superstrong powerful men centuries before P.E.D came into exsistance. James is Super Big Super Strong and I believe Supernatural like Mark Henry and Paul Anderson........it is possible.
@LVSWTZ Neither Mark Henry nor Paul Anderson were natural, and this guy served time for distributing steroids and other drugs. He IS genetically gifted, and this is what happens when genetics, hard work, smart training, sound dieting, and anabolics all get rolled into one.
If you think for even a second that any human being can manhandle the giant weights that this man moves without some sort of drug, you're a fool, sorry.
@LVSWTZ I'm sorry but yes, you are a fool(not "you fool", there's this thing called grammar).
This man was convicted of drug trafficking----he SOLD STEROIDS. You're telling me that a 400lb man who is one of the strongest benchpressers EVER, who GOT CAUGHT SELLING ILLEGAL ANABOLIC STEROIDS is completely natural, and never used them??
@NWpowerhouse85 "siiiiiiggggghhhhh" he may have used. but none the less i believe that 600 plus pound benches are possible drug free given genetics and drive and training. i believe a 1000 pound raw bench is with in reach though it's a long reach. like the making of a diamond it'll take pressure and time. i believe a man can fly..............you don't. see yah!
If man was meant to bench 700lbs(this guy did over 700lbs raw in competition), then the AVERAGE man would be able to bench 225 the first time he walked into a gym.
Steroids turn one into a beyond average man, no matter how genetically gifted one is or how large, they still have the same kind of hormones in their body, and there's a ceiling----steroids take one way beyond that ceiling, and with more effective hormones at that.
@NWpowerhouse85 James, Scot Mendelson are at the human limit?? how the fuck do you know? do you know every single fucking person in the world? There are people out there who are over 8 ft tall, does that mean they are on HGH? some people have great genetics, just because you cant do it doesnt mean others cant, dont get all pissy cause your parents have shitty genetics and passed it on to you.
They're at the limit for human genetics regarding strength athletics. Anyone who grows freakishly tall has long limbs and can't lift shit, so they're out of the equation.
And again, this guy IS the genetic limit. Yes, there are other guys that have reached that point, but they don't get better for benchpressing, otherwise 714 wouldn't be the record---which has stood now for how many years? That's right, it hasn't budged.
@tripleleap I have a profile picture on here that speaks for itself, so I'm not even addressing the stupid personal comment.
Finally, what the fuck is your point, douchebag? Is it to troll?
This man, Scot Mendelson, and the others in the sport are examples of people with TOP LEVEL GENETICS who add drugs, smart training and years of training, and put them all together. The ethnicities with the best genetics for lifting aren't people from third world countries, they're from Sweden, Poland
@tripleleap The U.S., Canada, and the like. Shut your trap, you obviously don't know what the fuck's going on---might have to do with the fact that your head is shoved so far up your ass that you can no longer hear due to being entrapped within your own rectum.
@EnvelopedInDarkness Lol calling bullshit on that one. According to strength standards tables, you'd have to weigh 765 to be able to bench 250 first time ever in a gym. I doubt you have a 765 physique. I doubt you're a genetic monster like Mendelson. This is clearly your YouTube "they can't prove me wrong on the Internets" ego talking.
@LVSWTZ And woah, I JUST saw that obscene comment.
1000lbs raw???
WTF lmao, if that's the case, then how come the raw bench record hasn't even budged about 6-7 years?
You need to learn body physiology. The people like James, Scot Mendelson, ones that lift, THESE ARE THE SUPER FREAKS, it doesn't get any better in terms of bone structure and size for moving weights. They're at the human limit, you can't get higher if you're a human.
I'm done with you, it's like talking to a 6 year old.
@tastefulphrasing A fat slob that has absolutely no documentation whatsoever to any of the bullshit lifts that he supposedly did.
Look, Andy Bolton is far larger than he ever was. He has decades of science behind him regarding advanced training principles, optimal volume/frequency/speed/rest time, as well as training speed, rep ranges, exercise variety, etc. There's also nutrition, of which they knew nothing about 125 years ago.
@tastefulphrasing Andy Bolton also has the advantage of using anabolic steroids the intelligent way, under the watchful eye of physicians and trainers, and for several years. At 380lbs, he's the only man to have barbell-deadlifted 1000lbs.
Yet Louis Cyr, who was far fatter and had a quarter of the size and none of the advances and knowledge of training today, somehow lifted it with ONE FUCKING FINGER???
People like you prove that common sense is a lost art.
"We're gonna crank up the workout now...go to 5 then go to 6"... Only a BEAST can make a statement like that. The workout was cranked up at 400 to me.
ehhm not a feelin its in the internet, england wikipedia he has the world record in clean testet bench press competition, 711lbs and its the truth ;) he trains since 19 years
only completed in drug tested federations, always been advocate of natural training ext. Guy was 400+lbs not hard to believe the type of strength he had.
im not trying to trash talk, but many people ASSUME that their "idols" are perfect etc, this applies especially to many bodybuilders etc, i dont know anything about henderson cept that hes ridiculously strong so i asked has he competed in drug free competitions or not..
these guys are great don't get me wrong, but they use shirts.. I'm not going to go far and say Black guys are the strongest - but when you put Mendelson, Bolton, and Konstantinov up against someone like James, then you cannot really compare because they use shirts and according to what James said he is drug-free, which I am sure the other guys are not.
What a nice guy, I like his approach and there are a number of ways he reminds me of Valerie Fedorenko. Affable, humble, honest and funny, this is a great post and to see such an elite athlete train this candidly is gold.

James is an amazing character, he would have been a natural in pro wrestling. The power and form on this vid is unsurpassed.

I love this Dude. "I like to tone my workout down for my spotters" after resting 500 on your chest before the last rep. HAHAHAHAHAH BEAST!!!!!
wisdometernal 2 years ago
"We're gonna crank up the workout now...go to 5 then go to 6"... Only a BEAST can make a statement like that. The workout was cranked up at 400 to me.

Henderson was a great body builder. What an inspiration to so many people. Its so sad he had to die at such an early age. He will forever be missed!

rantanen1 2 years ago
ehhm not a feelin its in the internet, england wikipedia he has the world record in clean testet bench press competition, 711lbs and its the truth ;) he trains since 19 years
peterjeck1234 2 years ago
only completed in drug tested federations, always been advocate of natural training ext. Guy was 400+lbs not hard to believe the type of strength he had.
desembodic 2 years ago
why do people thumb me down if i ASK?
im not trying to trash talk, but many people ASSUME that their "idols" are perfect etc, this applies especially to many bodybuilders etc, i dont know anything about henderson cept that hes ridiculously strong so i asked has he competed in drug free competitions or not..
rantanen1 2 years ago
lol after the lift off "thank you very much", "get out of the way" lol
ToquiGambit 2 years ago 31
Black guys are the strongest! Mark Henry- Highest raw squat @ 950 , (ex-world record) 903 Deadlift, and henderson with 711 RAW bench.
ilovehell666 2 years ago
mendelson, bolton, konstantinov, etcetc..
i'd say its 50-50 or so
rantanen1 2 years ago
these guys are great don't get me wrong, but they use shirts.. I'm not going to go far and say Black guys are the strongest - but when you put Mendelson, Bolton, and Konstantinov up against someone like James, then you cannot really compare because they use shirts and according to what James said he is drug-free, which I am sure the other guys are not.
jeasy02 2 years ago
actually konstantinov competes raw..
when you look at the top powerlifters and/or bodybuilders for that matter (yea i know its nota bout strength) i'd STILL say its about 50-50.
Maybe more black dudes in bodybuilding and more white dudes in powerlifting i'd say.
Oh and dont forget strongmen!
Those are white!
And erm.. when you say put up against.. for example konstantinov makes crazy raw lifts and i believe henderson ONLY benches?
So you're comparing a bencher to a powerlifter...
rantanen1 2 years ago
Yeah I am comparing a bencher to a powerlifter and in that
