  • The only thing that keeps me wondering is that the violin is in the SAME position Their fingers and bows are the only thing moving if you look closely! :S

  • i used to watch thismovie with my mom as a kid! its sooooo good! this was always my fave part

  • Pls, could someone tell what the name of the song is?

  • the sound of that violin is just out of this world

  • This song reminds me heavily of the evil sounding music from the caves in Pokemon. Great great music.

  • amazing

  • That movie is epic! It's a shame it's not more widely known....

  • @forgetfullandstuff I think extactly the same

  • @forgetfullandstuff

It really is a shame. Unfortunately this movie is usually catogorized as 'International'. It's Samuel L. Jackson man! I wish people knew what a gem this movie is!

  • I loved the filming during this scene. The main focus is on the red violin...as it should be. Everything else that happens in the background happens and passes by in a blur.

  • @Sanriko wait you helped with the film

  • @jimmipop1 Oh, no XD It would have been an honor if I did though :) I really like the way the director chose to film this scene though :D

  • anyone know what song they are playing??

  • @IrieAngel the song is called "Journey Across Europe"

  • @misjiffblackheart Thanks and Respect.

  • @IrieAngel no problem, this is definately one of my favorite songs on a violin

  • I found this movie through netflix, and this is without a doubt my absolute favorite movie now. I cannot believe I didn't hear anything about it when it came out.

  • @culturedhippie omg I'll have to look for it on netflix. I have it and I didn't see it. I watched it when it came out and fell in love with it. I want to buy it.

  • @Robertahausen it should be on instant. I just happened upon it scrolling through one day looking for a vid to watch with my mom, it was a pretty good find I think. :)

  • so happy this came out on instant watch on netflix!!!

  • I.need.to.get.my.hands.on.this.movie.right.now.

  • This was a terrific movie. Loves it.

  • chills. just. chills.

  • WOW

  • This is my favorite segment of the movie. I showed it to my friend and they went out and bought the movie! So your nice posting to Youtube was so helpful! Thanks Youtube for keeping the video up for us!

  • @HomeMoviesForFun Absolutely my favorite segment as well. That melody is so great! I bought the soundtrack just for this.

  • This is actually one of the better videos I have seen. With the Red Violin I think this is amazing! Great job on putting it on :)

  • this is scary & wonderful at the same time...

  • the first seconds, this music is a bit scary, don't you think ? violins sund so strange sometimes

  • I played for 8 years, from the age of 5 to 13, quit and mucked around with misc crap...now Im 33 and cant play a lick :( Pick it up, Pick it up and NEVER PUT IT DOWN o.o

  • I love the story of how this violin travels through time ending up in the hands of many. Ah, if only I could find it!

  • How come I never get invited to parties like these?

  • This crap doesn't make sense.

  • @montereol

Listen to M&M then, it'll probably make more sense to you.

  • My heart hurts . .. . In a good way.

  • SHEET MUSIC?????

  • speechless

  • when played well, the violin is just incredible...

  • Not sure being stuck in a coffin underground with a rotting corpse would've done much for the overall condition of the instrument...

  • @althesmith

You have to be paying attention to the movie. You get the impression that the gravediggers who bury little Kaspar were gypsies and that they dig him back up and steal the violin the next night.

  • who is the composer of the music of this movie?

  • This movie makes me utterly proud to call myself a Violinist. <3

  • Upload Tubestop on Mozilla Firefox and the ad won't play.

  • I can't forget this scene

  • smart description.

  • Was that guy in front of a green screen????

  • Was that guy in front of a green screen?

  • @R4P9898 I don't think so. It's not the same guy, it's a montage several dudes, filmed at the same angle. Notice that whenever the background changes, the guy does too. They're supposed to be the different generations of gypsy musicians who played the instrument over the course of a century. That's why it was so tragic and unforgivable when the Englishman steals it, because it was a treasured family heirloom by that point.

  • @yerk3 Ohhhhhhh......Ok. I'll bear that in mind. Thanks yerk3!!!!!=)

  • ....

    a

  • ....

  • @8159173 I obviously put that so that youtube won't delete my video. It has stayed on for quite a while so I believe I succeeded.

  • @DeadlyShuriken11 I'm motivated to buy the real thing but need to know what this is. :-)

  • Обожаю этот трек и фильм сильный

  • I love how everyone says the violin is a beautiful instrument, and while I agree, those that play it know that it is the most Atrocious instrument.

  • @Valoe7 Uh... Not really. I wouldn't be playing one if I thought it was the most atrocious. The fact I love it is why I play.

  • @iManicGenius I meant atrocious as in learning it. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

  • 0:oo skip freaking add V_V

  • umagresiaa tvitn pilmi da simgerac xo vabshe glejavs

  • @HD807 the pragtical extraction isEPIC HERE!!!

  • I love this kind of music

  • @marjan12342 Violins, to me. Always sound like their singing. Their music convey emotions so beautify. It can be sad, wild, cheery, or happy.

  • @marjan12342 Me too! I love this movie and also play the violin and have learned this piece by ear...

  • @axismaster

Hi axismaster, do u know how cald this peace? wats the name of the peace? i woold like to try it. i lernd by myselfe to play violin as a hobby. thanks.

  • This movie has inspired me so much. I'm proud to say that I play the violin. Such a beautiful instrument.!

  • @msricang You are so lucky.

  • @msricang i wish i could play the violin like i used to

  • @msricang as do i my friend

  • @msricang It's such a difficult instrument to master, but I love playing it too. :-)

  • The Red Violin belonged to Kasper Weiss, then it belonged to the ever changing gypsies, after that it belonged to no one else, they only wanted to posess it, but it didnt love them... it wanted to be played with love, you can see that when that white guy gets it, yeh he can play it well but the violin dont love him so she stays quiet...

  • "La tua è l'anima di Lazaro."

  • The music is great, but by the gods I hate the camera effect.

  • Red violin was such an underated movie....

  • I love how the composer always parodied the woman's lullaby in each of the pieces played in the various styles by the owners of the violin. Show's how inherent her presence is with the instrument...cool movie. I've often wondered the history of some of these instruments like those by Stradivari.

  • Ashame it's rare to hear music like that.

Everything has to be synthesized and sound artificial in order to "fit" in with the current generation.

  • The producers of this film should be pleased that you are posting this...its free advertisement. But I feel that way about anything posted on YouTube.

  • This little snippet, to me, ranks up there with some of the best moments in film history. I am a big fan of The Red Violin though I haven't seen it in a long time, and this scene is always in my mind when I think of it.

  • Does anyone have music to this?

  • benchanviolin

go on his website to find the sheet music

  • yes benchanviolin plays this in one of his vids and theres a link to website with the musice on it in the bar hope i helped

  • Comment removed

  • music is quite beautiful !

and the way this was shoot reminds me of the last scene from Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers - suppose it was inspired by it, in a way...

  • nice movie piece i find music little bit tragic just like history of all gypsies

  • I like how the violin is always fix in the middle of the screen in that scene.

  • were can i found the music sheet

  • if someone told you, someone else would mark it as spam. why waste your time asking?

  • Whoa that sounds cool!

  • Wouldn't they have coverted to ebony fingerboards and tailpieces much earlier, like in the middle to late 18th Century? I personally like the maple though; it makes the instrument entirely domestic.

  • one of de best films ever made . easily.

  • LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • 1:00 Jesus Christ, it's Inigo Montoya!

  • @flyingecko869 GOSH! your right! i just googled imaged him xD soooo similar

  • @flyingecko869 Lols, you know, I just watched the movie Princess Bride for the FIRST time yesterday and i JUST read about the character on wiki. I just chanced upon this vid on youtube; your comment made me crack up.

  • I Absolutely Love This Piece...<3 Fantastic.

  • why do u say is "artificial"?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, artificial how?

  • were can I find the sheet music.

Can someone play this song in guitar

  • @Desrinify you can get sheet music from - ben chan he did a transcription - look for him on you tube. he also did a how to video on it.

  • Eso no es musica gitana!!! Es una fantacia occidental de lo que suponen es musica gitana. Nada que ver. Busquen a Taraf de haidouks y comparen, es algo muy diferente.

  • yep... greatest movie, i joined youtube with this name cause it was this awesome, i really want to learn this song, along with Frederik pope's solo (crazy)

  • Just added the request today -- if you vote it up to the top, I'll write it! Click the banner on the top of my channel to find ChamberHymns and then look for the Voting page -- it'll need quite a few votes to get to the top, though!

  • oh cool =D this is the person who requested the code geass song and the gypsy scene ^^ im a huge fan and your playing is awesome =D im only grade 5 violin but im trying my hardest ^^

  • i bought a couch off a gypsy.

it smelt of cigarette smoke and violins

  • how does a violin smell... and the couch, did it sing and play music?

  • they smell musty

and don't be silly, a couch can't sing and play music!

    ;-)

  • I don't know but mine have a very characterisctic smell kind of spicy and the the rosin odor... when entering my room the simply smell of it makes me wanna play..

  • its a peice not a song

  • one of the best movie ever, too bad is not too famous

  • Great movie! Love this scene!

  • this music hurts...

    i love this...

  • Great movie.:-)

  • I think this is one of my favorite music scenes in the movie.

Too bad it didn't last as long as many of the other scenes ) :

  • they might have well just said:

and this is how music came to be.

  • I love the plot for this story. It gives an idea that w/ every object comes a story that may have unimaginable occurrences.

  • one of my fav. films period.

  • what's the name of the piece at start

that violin reaps my soul apart

it's dark as hell yet again with a spark of hope safe beneath inside it

  • they took that from kasper weiser's grave! so sad!

  • The violin didn't die, the boy did. It would be a loss to the world if the violin hadn't continued to live.

  • Is there really a Red Violin??

  • I heard it's true, but not as the way the movie says it, being more specific the "shell" wasn't made with blood, it just looked like, but it wasn't

  • yes it is, but is a stradivarius and was known as red violin.

  • It wasn't a strad in the movie. Dunno what the violin is in real life.

  • of course that in the movie is not a strad, and in the real life was a strad, you can read about it in the web

  • Ahh, the violin is such a beautiful instrument....

  • @Emberville The violin is a beautiful instrument to learn but its absolutely atrocious to learn.

You pretty much have to deafen your ear at the beginning of learning it

  • @Emberville yeah... if someone knows how to play it well! ;)

  • @Emberville the violin is a beautiful instrument to listen to but it's atrocious to learn.

  • @JohanStarDragon obviously, nothing is easy. but if its so beautiful, then learning shouldn't be "atrocious" in the least.

  • @itsxamama You got me there.

  • anybody knows da name of this movie i wanna see it

  • The Red Violin :)

  • The Red Violin :)

  • love how the violin never moves.... awesome effect

  • Woah... The closest thing I can play to gypsy style is czardas.

  • did the gypsies or the boy's trainer dig up the grave?

  • They leave you guessing. I would assume that the boys trainer would not have sold the violin for the price a gypsy would have been willing to pay for it during that time... but rather to a wealthy individual.

  • The violin music is beautiful. I could listen to it all day.

  • i wanna see someone actually playing this that would be so kool =)

  • gypsy violin music is amazing, wish i could play it

  • "This could of been the best movie ever...but the gratuitous nudity ruins it!"

    Hahahahaha, moronic statement.

  • passion

  • Wonderful idea! A movie that stars a violin and follows its life. This could've been the best movie ever, but the gratuitous nudity ruins it.

  • did anyone notice that the card with the devil's face on it looked like a gypsy man with a hat?

  • Excelent theme by John Corigliano, and beautiful the interpretation of the master Joshua Bell

  • and this is why the film received an Oscar for Best Original Score. It sticks with me to this very day, particularly this scene and it's haunting, rich, familiar sounds. Gorgeous.

  • its a parth you freaking newb :D

    xD srry xD

  • Cool, Thats Ravel's Tzigane...

  • never mind it sounds similar in the beggining

  • this is the best film if I saw:)

  • same here i just love the sound of the instrument 8D

  • Foreign films are so much better than films here in the US. Everything is CGI here.

  • this is i think an american film but is multilingual

  • It's a Canadian film. Multilingual.

  • It's Canadian!

  • Actually it's Canadian. English and French and filmed in part in Montréal!

  • I learned to play this, love to do it as a warmup.

  • did you have to tune down? i'm having a hard time figuring this one out.

  • I can give you the notes I use, i certainly can't play it note for note, I have to buy the sheet music, but by ear I got it pretty close, I'll send you a message.

  • please do :) thanks

  • you think you could send me the notes as well? I would greatly appreciate it. This song is really awesome and due to the "gypsy style" its really difficult to pick off by ear. Thanks.

  • can you send me it too? thanks
