@proclivity11 I really hope you are joking when you say that you are having your dog "debarked, declawed and neutered."
I worked at an animal hospital for 3 years and I must say though there were only ever 3 de-bark surgeries performed while I was there, it is a very cruel practice. It was, among a few other things that I found to be cruel, one of the most painful things that I had to assist with. Second, dogs should not be declawed. You can trim your dogs nails on a weekly basis
If you do any research on the subject whatsoever, Jess, you will quickly find that cutting vocal cord tissues, whether through the oral cavity or an incision in the neck, is not painless. In fact, recovery is very painful as anyone who has had a tonsillectomy can attest. There is a high risk of life-threatening complications. But even if you could wave your magic fairy wand and make this as painless as you claim (how do you know? ever been devocalized?), it would still be immoral. Cruel. Lazy.
If you do any research on the subject what so ever, you will quickly find that it is completely painless to the dog. The procedure itself is easier and safer that spaying or neutering. Considering I am a veterinarian with 3 shelties of my own that have all been debarked; I can assure you it has nothing to do with the laziness or the cruelty of the owner.
Not sure that I agree with debarking, but pet owners should have to pass some kind of test to prove they're responsible. I moved from an apartment where I got no sleep because the neighbors dog barked all night long in with a roommate who won't get after her dog for shitting on the carpet, tearing stuff up and barking all night. This dog is really close to ending up in a shelter and probably wont get adopted.

You emotional dog lovers actually believe that a dog experiences remorse because of an inability to bark. LOL It's not a human, you dum-dums.....it's a stupid animal that doesn't know better. Stop giving human attributes to your dogs......you've seen too many Disney animated movies where animals talk and sing. A quiet dog makes everyone happy, especially your dog hating neighbors who are forced to tolerate your stupid beast.
this is one of the must horrible inhuman, disgusting heart breaking things that should be prohibit and the persons that r dog owners that have done this should have never had got a dog in the first place.
'the hell?? if they were to do this to stop the annoying sound of barking, they must be pretty idiotic.... i'd rather have happy yelps than the sound someone trying to moan out a burp...
first off. This dogs sounds like he is very old because debarking does not induce weasing. Second of all my dogs incessant barking is causing me to develop ill feelings towards her especially in comparison to my SUper quite first dog. If i had the money to spend to get it done i would because i would never give her up . I dont need a doggy alarm system or a doggy smoke detector...as i already have those installed in my house. And it doesnt help any when your neighbors complain about it.
Docking animal ears and tails and even the dewclaw are wrong as well..They are all cosmetic procedures done for an animal that cares nothing about its appearance!
Fact its they are all LEGAL procedures..including debarking!
This dog sounds like my friends collie that was stricken with cancer and had a hard time breathing.Debarking does not make a dog weese uncontrollably. Clearly the person who posted this is so against that they didnt even bother showing the actual dog. Its interesting how many people are weighing in on this...so many cocks have been flapping away.
No disrespect here, but don't a lot of dog breeders and owners shorten the tails, and trim the ears of their dogs in the name of vanity? I mean, what's cruel about removing vocal cords if it's found that quieting a dog makes peace in a neighborhood.
@geekieboy This is beyond cosmetic, where is the RESPECT for another living creature? please don't reply to me again with your insane comments, that's animal abuse, which of course I'm against. Thanks God i live in a country where those unnecessary procedures are prohibited. Bye.

The vet says it is an easy procedure, they cut the vocal cords BUT only as a last resort. The surgery is $1000. were I live. It isn't a pleasureable thing but if it means keeping your baby you may have to think hard. I would never choose that but the bark collars don't work well on little dogs. Mine was shocked when she played and ate, she got burns on her neck and it was too much hassle for something that didn;t work
im not sure if you have already done it but what the vet means is that it is an easy procedure for him/her, not for the dog. may i ask if you have done any sort of training that would help with the barking? also, when you leave the house, when the dog starts barking, do you acknowledge that the dog is barking by going back into the house? if you do it will keep happening. this is not an overnight fix. it took our goldendoodle 4 mos to learn but now everyone comments on how quiet she is
I have been turned into the city by my neighbor.I would never spend a $1 to get my dog debarked BUT the neighbor(only 1 who hears our dogs)I have no choice or get rid of 'em.,they are family,I have had them for 3yrs since puppys. why all of a sudden he's complaining. It use to be worse around here, things have settled down,I don't get it. He says is when I'm not home. he won't call us like I have asked. leaves notes on our door after the fact,he is at work all day,he says the dogs barked all day?
If you live in an apartment and your dog already has 2 complaints from neighbors who don't want to talk to you about it, and one more complaint means you're legally forced to get the dog out of there in a week, what would you do? Just give him up to a shelter, to get adopted by people who could hurt him or get killed for not getting adopted fast enough? Who are you to condemn people just trying to keep the dog they love?
how about you teach your dog to NOT bark instead? there are collars and things to use as a bark deterrent. don't butcher your dog. it's CRUEL and illegal in alot of states.
and it's well known that shock and citronella collars are unreliable and many dogs bark despite them.
Try those things first, obviously, but if there is no other way, I was saying it is better to debark your dog than to get him put down. Would you not agree?
i did read what you said. i have a pomeranian, notorious for barking. i've tried everything to get him to stop and i can't seem to do it. would i put him down? NO! but, would i mutilate him either? again. NO. if my landlord or neighbors complained about the noise, i'd move before doing either of those things. when you get a dog, you sign up for barking.
It's wonderful that you're so fortunate, but some of us out there don't have the option of moving every few months. There are people who cannot afford to move. If your landlord said you had to get rid of the dog in 7 days (like mine is free to do whenever he wants) there's a good chance you'd have to get rid of it. Unless you're willing to get debarking. There are people who do it out of necessity and you have no right to be disrespectful to them, you have no idea what their situation is.
i'm not fortunate to do anything like move every few months. but, like i said, barking is something that you sign up for when you get a dog. i'm sure that hiring a trainer or medical (not surgical) intervention would cost alot less or at least, comparable, than having your dog surgically altered. and would probably be just as effective and alot less cruel. it's illegal in alot of states for a reason.
It's also legal in more countries than it is illegal in those states. Things happen, you may have to move from a big house to an apartment, and I think getting rid of the dog due to that is more psychologically damaging to the dog than any surgery could physically be. Debarked dogs aren't mentally damaged from debarking; most people say the dogs don't even realize they've been debarked. If a trainer and medical intervention does not work, debarking should be an option. As a LAST RESORT.
OMFG that dog isnt debarked. ffs. nice vid of a curtain though?? BTW to all you f*ckheads, dogs dont need to bark. they use body language and scent more than vocal communication. and some dogs are crazy barkers. my dog isnt debarked, but hes barking like mad 24/7 and no obediance classes are helping, the vet said hes fine and no training techniques are working. last resorts: shock collar, if that fails, debarked. if all the obediance trainers cant fix the problem how would giving him up help???
What in the hell is the matter with you people??? That is not how a debarked dog sounds.. you don't even know if that IS a dog... do you ever SEE a dog in that video? NO! All you see is a curtain
dont go gettin all pissed off now, every debarked dog will sound the different, depending on the surgical procedure, how long its been since its been done, any infection/whatever
ps
its obv a dog, but hey, how can you judge, you cant even tell that its debarked
Thank you for posting this. A man in my neighborhood has a puppy mill in his $400,00 home. Debarks them all to keep the number of dogs he has under the radar. They sound so sad when they are out in their pen. I told him I would never debark my dog. "It's a really good investment." he replied.
I hope, someone stabs them in the throat or that they suffer cancer in their throats. And with (almost) no voice anymore, I will ASK them to SPEAK UP because I can't HEAR them and will LAUGH the shit out of me!! oO
Oh yes. debarking is more cruel than having a dog put down. i agree it should always be the last resort, but sometimes its the only choice. btw, the dog in this vid isnt debarked -.-
I'm having my dog debarked, declawed and neutered. Then when the time is right, euthanized.

@proclivity11 And then the quick retracts and you can eventually have the nails so far back that they are very short.
Third, at least you are smart enough to say that you would neuter your pet.
Though, in all honesty, I wish that people like you, and people with this attitude could not own pets.
