  • Dear Master,

I have a video of me practicing this routine. Could you please critique me. Thank you. Edward

  • yup this is one of the few real shaolin knug fu left never the useless modern/performance shaolin =)

  • this is shideyang best and most strongest shaolin monk ever lived, and hes too top shaolin monk till today. no wonder he is look at his forms ,and u know why , hes just has solid forms haha. peace see you

  • xiao hong quan the rots/source of shaolin knug fu , thats how shaolin was developed ,from xiao hong quan

  • @MechPhantom

From what I heard, 18 fists of lohan (Luohan shi ba shou) was the first form, but maybe I've been misinformed.

  • @Babbeloea haha yea man , still i think shaoln has roots form this art . pretty col this style is, but sadly shaolin kung fu has transformed soo much into a modern wushu sport performance art =(. Rarely a self-defnse anymore, see you pal thx for the reply =)

  • Well, I need to say, this is the full version of the routine, im my style,we only learn to the sec 0:34. The rest of the routine is a secret only for monks

  • this is very basic, this is one of the first things they teach you at shaolin from what i hear. but you know what they always say, practice those basics.

  • if your teacher shows you the correct applications of the movements and you practice with them in mind and practice on someone who gradually cooperates less. Shaolin kung fu has the potential to be very effective for self defense.

  • Is shaolin kung fu effectiv for self defence?

  • depends on how you practice.

if you practice Wushu, then no.

if you practice sanda/sanshou then yes.

  • Wushu as a style is still effective for self defence. Competitive wushu is not so much. If you train to compete then you sacrifice the time that should be spent doing functions to make it useful to defend yourself. Classical wushu though is very much effective.

  • If you use Shaolin correctely, than yes.

  • @tvtotal95 thats what it is made for. or at least thats what shaolin says. but i would believe it with all the damned training they do. i saw one of those guys stand on 2 fingers! its preposterous what they accomplish through training

  • Surely there not unique version of Xiao Hung Quan. However the performance is not bad and I have learned it yet. In our russian book dedicated to this style (written directly throghout Shaolin tradition! - ha-ha!) there is other version that differs immensly from this one. Ex/ the first movement assumes firstly left block-punch by right hand and only further punch by left hand... With respect and thanks!

  • your english is horrible i cant understand a single sentence you were trying to convey about the subject. ha-ha!

  • Accept my condolence! I wrote to those who knows English...

  • It's not cool to brag about your lineage man. That's boring. My shifu learnt 4 versions of Xiao Hong when he was studying in China. The differences are largely to do with different functions though so there isn't really a right or wrong version.

  • seems that he is inmotivative but it looks perfect

  • love the bits at 1:04 and 1:12 thats pretty cool

  • haha

ok so i read don horhe's comment. he obviously doesnt know that for a highly advanced kung fu practitioner, such as Shi De Yang, torso movements are almost imperceptible. After decades of training, all that is needed for explosive energy is quick and small jerks at the waist, which cant be seen by a regular person, like don hore. newayz, you should read up on Shi Guolin's training it this doesnt make sense to you..

  • But still, you can't beats Shi De Yang with stance discipline. I attended his Da Hong Quan seminar in Paris Bercy Academy (France) - one of the places he likes to hange out - & also where you catch Shi Heng Jun???

  • I'm not qeen on THAT style of Xiaohong Quan - it's got some fundamental flaws which is why it's changed so much throughout Shaolin temples as masters & masters tried & tried to make it more realistic... changing the moves etc... I'd rather practice Classic Northern styles Xiaohong - the type Zhou Baofu teaches & also Shi De Jian's.

  • So my understanding is that even though traditional forms are supposed to be unchanged and stay traditional, they are changed inevitably anyway. I do this form and it's quite different. I recognize most of the moves, but they're done differently and sometimes in a different order.

  • I disagree. I am American. I and most of the people here ARE pretty much ignorant egotists.

"Shi De Yang" and "no power" in the same comment. Haha that made me laugh! His reputation is that of one of THE most powerful of Shaolin.

I don't know what is power and what is not. BUT if he is not demonstrating power then he likely purposefully altered his movements for the instructional dvd.

  • @hottyson shi de yang IS the msot powerful of shaolin . Damn man hes the best !

  • @MartialArtsCN who doesnt ?! hahaha ! peace my good fren =) Shi deyang the best forever !!!

  • Awesome...and I like the fact that when he sits in his Horse Stance his feet are comfortably spread out. In other words, they're not straight (like most martial artists claim that they have to be).

  • You stupid ass crackers kill me with your negative comments about a master of martial arts. Everybody always has a big ego and thinking that THEIR way is the best way to do the form and this and that. That type of attitude kills everything...but I guess I should expect it from an american

  • don't trash Americans, not everyone here is ignorant. you thanks to that comment, in turn, are ignorant.

  • @theclavious All I know is that this man could beat the shit out of all of us. For all I know he might as well be able to stop bullets ...

  • Nahh, don't like him. His movements don't start with his legs. He only moves his arms, which in turn havo no power.

  • hong is not red its another handza minnig is flue(aloot of water) and olso it aname of allot of chines pepole olso the falon gong master is "li hong ji" the hong is not hong se= red coler sound same but another minnig sorry about my english

  • im so con fused there is like 5 versions of this form

  • @ SignorFOX, Xiao Hong Quan means, "Small Red Fist". Xiao= Small, Hong= Red, Quan= fist. "Quan", is pronounced "Chwen" (Often, "Quan" is used to identify any styles as a martial art - Tai chi Quan etc...)This is one of the 18 fundamental Shaolin boxing. Also, there is "Da Hong Quan" meaning Big Red Fist as "Da" meaning big, is the opposit of Xiao. OK?

  • There are two Hong words in chinese wit different meanings same sound. One is Hong meaning Red, while the other Hong is flood, its also a family surname such as Hung..A common misconception with non-shaolin people is calling hong quan "red"fist. Which is incorrect as the actually charactor and meaning for the style is "FLOODING" fist as the style is named for its rapid and overwhelming fist/palm stikes in actual application. as a shaolin student how can u not know that, shame on you..

  • @anhkhoinguyen LOL non-shaolin people I think they are called Asians ROFL

  • what does Xiao hong mean ?

( i mean can anyone translate it to me ?)

  • who's the performer, I really like this demo, even better than shi yong zhi's

  • haha...he's a great master in chinese who call Shideyang.

  • muito bom!!!
