"Ninjya" is actually correct in the sense that the "じゃ" syllable is normally romanized "jya" as someone else had touched upon. It's just not that common of a spelling as people would write "ninja" in English which should actually be considered bad spelling.

I haven't got the slightest idea why, but this popped up in my subscription box today. I checked to see if it was reuploaded, but since it has comments from over a year ago, I guess not. YouTube is seriously going crazy.
I'll tell you how, Jon: it has something to do with the Japanese translation. "Ja" in Japanese is a combination of two characters: "Ji" and "Ya". Therefore, the actual translation would come to "Jya", and not "Ja".
If you didn't know - this is the game Tomonobu Itagaki's Xbox series is a continuation of. As for why they put the NES games in instead of the Sega version - Sega lost the source code for all of their games between 1999 and 2003 - this includes EVERYTHING from the Sega Master System through the Sega Saturn. Whenever a new game has been introduced into the specific systems virtual consoles/libraries they're actually just the ROM images running on Steve Snake's emulators (the same used on the PC).
Jesus...I hope you learned how to be expressive without blowing out ear drums in your later LPs. You set a normal tone and then utterly shatter that in a split second of uncontrollable emotion. I've never had a LP host grate on my nerves (without trying to mind you) more than your commentary on this LP did. Nontheless, I think you'd make a great LP host, and I love your choice in games. Keep up the work.
So, from what I'm seeing so far: They modified the story, changed the level layout, modified enemy behaviors a bit, and forgot to bug check their game. They took out some cutscenes, and mispelled a few things, right?
Not sure if anyone's already said this but there are two versions of this game.
Wikipedia...
"There are two versions of the game that exist. The first version tells the story through the eyes of Ryu himself, explaining his experiences in great detail. The second version is narrated from an outside source, but some details of the plot is not explained as much."
Ninjya is probably because the character "ja" doesn't exist in Japanese. IIRC they use ji+ya to create it. That combination is translated in several ways. Generally accepted is ja, making ninja, but jya is also accepted, pronounced the same way. Anyway, it's just a matter of romanizing the japanese characters.
this is THE BEST VERSION of ninja gaiden off all times. This master system versio humiliates nintendo versions and all the others! the sound, action, story, is so much better than others, and makes nintendo versions like trash!
okay yeah this has probably been pointed out a million times, but they spelled pursuit wrong too... on the same screen where he was complaining about ninja being spelled wrong!
This "reviewer" doesn't respect the Master System platform. He mocks the music, and he calls the buttons A & B.
You could spell it "ninzya" depending on the romanization of the Japanese. Ninja is just the way it's usually written in English. So it's not a huge mistake.
There is more than one system for romanizing Japanese. It is a mistake in the sense that "ninja" is the widely accepted spelling in English. But it isn't a blatant mistake. It can be justified if the programmers did it as a stylistic choice.
1. He's not a reviewer, he's a Let's Player. Whether he does or does not respect the Master System is totally up to him and none of our business, anyway.
2. I typed "Ninjya" into Microsoft Word, and guess what? It's not a word, regardless of what the translators thought.
3. The sound is pretty bad in places, even I gotta admit. I'm generally really tolerant and even appreciative of old school music, too.
1. I don't care if he's a reviewer. If he doesn't give the MS a fair shake, I don't wanna watch it. It's crap.
2. "Ninja" is the correct English spelling so that's all an English dictionary will acknowledge. I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about varying systems of romanizing Japanese.
3. There are many players who played the MS back in the day and love the sound both for its minimal feel and for nostalgia.
Your opinion is no more relevant than my first comment.
Gotta be honest. This game looks pretty lame, especially when compared to all the other NGaidens available. Intriguingly this isn't even the same as the GGear version, which is actually pretty damn good. Again, not like the NES/PCE version but unique in it's own right... not like this one on the MS. It just doesn't look fun at all. Shame, especially considering how mighty Shinobi on the MS is!
@ColdTRemor74 I too looked at that text confused. How hard is it to spell out word "ninja"? I remember from Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones for NES, that in the 2 Player mode, first story text what is shown, there is a misspelling. Billy was spelled Bimmy. What a huge mistake.
Technically ninja and ninjya are both correct transliterations of 忍者. the second syllable of the word is made up of the Japanese characters じ "ji" and ゃ "lowercase 'ya'".
While that may be true, they spelled it right on the title screen but spelled it wrong on the opening splashes for each chapter? That's pretty terrible.
Yeah im not much for saying in the comments"lol he/she just said"insert awesome ceatch phrase here"but the"HOW THE FUCK DO YOU SPELL NINJA WRONG thing was halarious.
So I guess its not a question of correctness but a matter of consistency. And usually when something is that glaring it can speak to laziness or inattentiveness on the part of the original makers of the game.
Well, if you think about it, this game could come first in the series. Like.. Ryu's dad goes to America while Ryu's still in Japan saving his village from the Shogun of darkness. As soon as his father gets word of Ryu's heroicness, he says "I've made up my mind" & sends Ryu the letter saying "I'm going to have a life or death duel.." and thus, that's how it all begins. Seriously, the real timeline is:
"the Bushido has been stolen." So does this mean that samurai all around Japan are suddenly going to start acting in greed and self-interest and betraying their lords?
Next time..Chapter 2: Pursit in Tokyo. In nice big bold letters, no less.
Ephidel88 1 week ago

Indeed, like doomduckie said, ninja is spelled にんじゃ in hiragana. It breaks down exactly like explained two comments below:
に Ni
ん N
じ Normally Shi, but pronounced as Ji due to the " mark
ゃ And this is a ya, but because it's written small, it connects with the Ji to make a Ja.
The same goes for Jo and Ju, which in Hiragana and Katakana are actually writt
