I am watching this and reading the posts below and thinking.... 'really? Brilliant scene? Fantastic lyrics? Catchy tune??' What the hell am I missing here? This has to be one of the most inane pieces of crap I've ever watched. The whole movie would put me into a coma.
@ScriptSupervisorSand And, yet, you took the time to comment how much of a "piece of crap" this movie is. I think what you are missing are time management skills. (or more attention @ home)
@ScriptSupervisorSand Oooohhh, apohpohpoh yes working in the film industry makes time management much better than just a regular old person. You are so very important! Listen, I work in the very-important-culturally-superior-to-everyone "industry" too and my time management skills are HORRIBLE!
I think the U.S. economy would do well to have itself a little "stool boom;" what with oil, jobs, housing, etc... And that's no "crap!" Get it? I'm equating "stool" with "crap!" An apt analogy if e'er there was one and a truism that is tantamount to a tautology.
I love the way, though it's passed over in silence, not made into a big deal or focal point, it IS SO OBVIOUS that CORKY ST. CLAIRE has DOLLED UP this unfortunate old man cast as narrator... until he's so made up and sassy-looking that you can cut the seething, hush-hushed homoeroticism in the room with a freaking knife. I can smell the narrator's perfume (a gratuitous touch, and a fragrance courtesy "Mrs. St. Claire") when I watch this. I swear I can smell it coming off of the poor old man!
one of the greatest and funniest scene in chris guest movie history... Ilove in the dvd extras - "This bulging river" ....Parker and Catherine are HILARIOUS!
Bring on the next movie ( although none have topped this one yet!)
The expression on Corky's face when he lifts Libby...just thinking about it cracks me up! Also Catherine O'Hara's bangs...throughout the entire movie. GOD I love it!
I still think Catherine O'Hara's ' sticky vertical bangs' inspired the Cameron Diaz scene in 'There's Something About Mary' (obviously, not nearly as clever...)
I, too, loved Catherine's bangs and horrible multi-colored sportswear throughout the movie...and the wonderful Chinese restaurant scene in which she drunkenly describes Fred Willard's penis reduction...and to think it was improvised! She's brilliant.
THe restaurant scene is so funny. I had what most men dream of""" Why don't you get when of those vagina enlargements?? Who wrote that? Fred Willard is a genious..
lendlracquet, that was one of the best scenes in the whole movie ! I laughed until I cried. I really do wonder how much of the 'genital size incompatibility resulting in penis reduction surgery' was improvised. Fred and Catherine were PERFECT together as the travel agency couple who'd never been anywhere (except for some overwhelmingly non-exotic city for his surgery !) I loved the vertical front part of her hair and their tacky matching clothes, too!
The cast of Red, White, and Blaine should go on tour.

My god, this scene is so brilliant. Those dance moves, the set design, the lyrics, "...you will drool at the splendor of these magic stools!"
And the orchestration is fantastic - the tambourine, that noodling clarinet line, the woodblocks!

Christopher Guest should stick to musical/pseudo-documentary comedy---this film,"Spinal Tap","Mighty Wind"---it's what he does best.
