  • We always take our dog to the river walk. One of the few nice things in Danville.

  • The first building has been bought and is bringing jobs to Danville, and the reason the old building are not used is because it cost so much to renovate them, those buildings have no utilities at all thats why new buildings are built instead of renovating the old ones.

  • I live in danville, and always have, my father and mother worked for dan river mills, i think its best that they closed, awesome pictures!

  • I grew up in Danville all my life and have spent the past few years in Richmond attending VCU and working under our now new Governor Bob McDonnell. I'm planning on coming back to Danville next year and try and do all I can to help turn the area around. I know that it can be done.

  • Leevo1987, I grew up in Danville but left in 89. I wish you the best and I hope you can contribute to the city. They really need one thing, JOBS!!! If you can find another industry to come in you will have regrowth and prosperity. Good luck and God be with you.

  • @johnnyphotos--I agree with you there. Work-wise, there's really nothing in Danville which is a shame. I almost got work there once, but I had to turn it down b/c the pay rates were way too low :-(

  • yeah i was there wen they did that

  • it was sad when they imploded the building.... it hurt so many people who lived here their whole lives and worked there :'(

  • I live in Danville and this was a very nice video. I wish they would have left the Schoolfield Recreation Center up, it was a nice place.

  • yep that building was imploded 2 days ago

  • This was lovely and a bit sad. A ghost town? No, a changing and growing town. Preserve the past as best we can and prepare for the future.

  • i live in danville, and i hate it, i'm glad tha dan river mills is gone. it was a n eyesore

  • Yeah it has lost all this stuff but bring the camera over to the peidmont area and you will see Huge chains, malls, and plazas with more chains. It's not going to become a ghost town, believe me.

  • Yeah, im sorry 4 all the people who lost their jobs.!!!!:(

Gretna,VA resident 4LIFE!!!!I live about 30-40 minutes from Danville and I lov it their!

  • Great video but oh so sad and heart-breaking, nevertheless, I love calling this area home... spent my first 20 yrs. in Eden, NC, they lost Fieldcrest and Pluma. My next 20 yrs. in Danville, graduated from Averett, and Danville lost Dan River Mills. That's approx. 8000- 10,000+ total jobs lost, also Martinsville. Lost by p-ss-poor management and foreign competition mainly. Bruce Springsteen's song "My Hometown" would be appropriate for your video. People must remember the importance of all this.

  • Thanks for this video, very well done.

  • danville is the best...i can't believe they're tearing all of the mills down...i hate it.

i wouldn't wanna live anywhere else.

  • its sad what's happening here in danville but im still proud to live here

  • It's so hard for me to even watch this video! I spent most of my childhood at the Rec. Center, and now it's gone. :( I'm in Durham now, and it seems everytime I come back home, something else is gone. It makes me sad that my hometown is becoming a town that I don't recognize. I just wish it could be the way it used to be. It's so sad that people are tearing down the stuff that makes Danville stand out, and that makes Danville--Danville!!! Nice work though.

  • Hi Danville Virginia,

    Nicest people in the US.

Greetings to all my friends from the Southern Processors.

  • Thanks for posting this video. When did Dan River close?

  • Dan River Mills was bought out by an Indian firm and closed for good two years ago. Some of the buildings are still used for storage, but otherwise and other than the brand name, it is gone for good.

Thanks all who watched and replied,

    Caz

  • Thank you for reminding me of home. We had to leave almost a year ago because of the lack of employment and I really miss it.

  • Thanks for sharing your photos...well done. We've just moved to Danville, and it truly is sad how these old downtowns just become "lost". Your nature photos are beautiful.

  • Thanks Dawn, quite enjoyed your video also and really loved the ambiance of the music. I had to get a CD. :>)

I lived in Ringgold with my wife and two boys (15 and 11). I grew up in Caswell County just south of Danville, but Ringgold is where my father was born and raised, so I am back to my roots I guess you would say.

  • yeah i live in danville. i mean love danville but if we can make the employment rate go higher in this city we can make the city look better. and probably gain some attention.

My dad told me that like in two years, new companies are going to move in.

  • Somebody needs to do something with Downtown danville, Everything down there seems empty. The main side of Danville has alot coming soon. And it would be nice for downtown to get alot of new stuff.

  • Its sad whats happening to Danville.

  • I hate seeing those buildings downtown all empty. That's what happens when everything has to be made cheaply overseas nowadays. =( oh well. Nice video btw. A nice photos from the Walking Trail. It's changed abit since I was last over there.
