Chris, Very nice jacket, the color works well. The 13:40 video ;-( , dang, you could have done this in less then 5:00, I was ready to leave at 6:00 but out of respect I watched the WHOLE epic! AND, some screen shots would have been very nice. OK, I'm done bitching...
I should also mention that with exchange you don't need proprietary software to be installed. I can use just about any email software i want on any platform.
With exchange I have 4 devices with different OSs (linux, windows, windows mobile, and mac) that are always in synch with email, contacts, tasks, and calendars - with instant updates from the active sync push technology. all through one service and on my own domain. What other service offers all that, and how are they better?
Firstclass offers that as well. Server-centric, so no reliance on keeping any data on any machine. Works great on mac/linux/windows, and supports all standard email protocols too like imap and pop (poor, I know). 100% push on the client. I send my boss an email, and I hear a 'ding' the instant I push the send button. Not to mention, we only need 1 server instead of 3 for the number of users we have.. Look into firstclass, it actually offers a lot more.
Can you explain how its "better" though? Also are there any hosted solutions for people only needing a couple inboxes for ~$10-15/each a month, instead of setting up an in-house server at full cost? (as in Chris' situation)
Don't know of any hosted solutions off hand, other then ours. We aren't that cheap, as we provide a lot more then just basic email... In terms of being a host, it is better, as it uses less bandwidth. 600 users, using 2mbps of bandwidth. Under exchange, thats not possible. Client side, its pretty mindless to deal with. Just enter a username and password and its done. No fiddling. I saw a 300 person exhange server crash on a 'send-all' email.. Thats just unacceptable.
