@joshuablinked - you are sick, go and see a doctor its either you are insane or you are brain dead. hanging drug courier or caning them is draconian laws? I think its better you whole family become drug addicts and then we will see
It is unfair and uncivilized to take someone's live away especially on the grounds of drugs. It would be understandable if it was a murder charge but drugs? I can get it anywhere in this world. Singapore govt is unkind and heartless even being a s'porean, I hate my country!
what is the current situation about this case? i fucking hate the government for doing such things. nobody is allowed to take someones live. especially not a states government. and if they would stop doing death penalty's nothing would happened. country's without that sort of penalty survive as well. just go and take a closer look at Europe. no death penalty = no changes. it would not get better or worse if they would stop that fucking behavior of treating humans like shit.
The penalty for jumping off a mountain even in liberal Sweden is death. So do we close off all mountains or remove them from the face of the earth incase some moron decides to jump off?Luckily few people jump off mountians so we do not need to get rid of the world mountians!
Like the death penalty in Singapore, it should not be abolished because people can choose not to commit murder. However murder victims around the world do not have the choice to be a victim!
Not many people jump of mountians because they know they will kill themselves.
In Singapore not many people dare to commit murder or deal drugs because they know they will get executed!
Simple. Criminlas have a choice, if they do not want to be execued or canned then they MUST OBEY THE LAW and they will go on the enjoy a long peaceful life.
Many western people are angry at liberals for failing to punish criminals and making our streets no go areas where we fear our kids being murdered etc.
@dachee - have you seen a drug addiction causing body harm to their family members just because they did not give them money to buy drugs or they rob to get the drug. Do you think god allow that to happen or willl god protect these victims . You dont feel sad for the drug addicts family when their family is being ruin due to the drug habbit of their family members , you have to be in the shoes of the victims of being rape, murder , dont simply always wear one pair of shoe
@Freedomspy26 And if you would put them in prison like any other state, they still could sell their drugs? Rubbish, a state, that puts people do death just for smuggling or firing a gun without hurting anybody has nothing to do with a modern law system, but is just barbarian. Btw, I highly doubt, that there is so much crime in Australia...
@shanshui1991@Freedomspy26 No no. It's a fallacy to reduce this to a pro/anti cap punishm argument (ergo pros and cons of this are immaterial). The crucial element here is the capacity (of the accused) for adult decision-making. It is better to adopt ambivalence wrt notions of morality etc. No capacity for mature decision-making in most legal sys = no liability for adult punishm. Age in this case is a solid factor of considern; easily arguable tt 19 is not a widely accepted age of maturity mc.
@russ9356 Not sure. But Singapore has an increase in loan shark activity, violent crimes (ie: homicides with bodies disposed in Bedok reservoir) and cited by the 2011 CIA "world crime" report as a hotbed for human trafficking. I don't understand your logic seeing that Australia doesn't have the cap-punishm for these crimes.
-
I suspect the argument you're implyg is that there wd be a drop in these crimes if Aus has the CP for them. Since that cannot be verified, this is a pure hyp'cal situ.
way to go Singapore justice i wish it was in practice in Australia maybe then we would not get so many drive bys ,granny bashings, rapes ,home invasions, assults, muggings but then we have so many bleeding hearts/cowards that it will never happen so things will just get worse
Unless you take particular case (ie. Saddam, Gheddafi or Child Rapist) where I can undesrstand but still not support, I think Death Penalty goes against Human Rights.
First of all, as human we can never be 100% sure of hanging the wrong person, second we need to think about the family of the executed who have no guilt and still will pay the price, third killing someone who killed doesn't bring back the person so I see as a form of Revenge rather then Justice.
@Itaussieflyer I get what you are saying, but i think the death penalty here is not so much about, handing out justice, as it is to scare people from attempting things like this in the 1st place. In short the death penalty is more of a prevention tactic to the crimes. The people who get killed are the side effect of that tactic
I support the High Court Judges decision to sentence him to death. Now, he is caught and some people say give him second chance, what if he managed to escaped? how many people will suffer? Let us not be too emotional, be rational. If a person choose to go against the law, then he or she got to prepare to face the music. Please look at history how the people during the QING Dynasty got addicted to opium (drug) and suffered!!!
No matter where you are from you must alsways speak out for human rights and against injustice and barbaric evil governments. The evil system currently in Singapore is digraceful to civilized people everywhere in this world.
@sandye2100 - speak out for human rights ? hey girl, you are a real joker! Saddam hussein, gaddafi, torture so many thousands of their own citizen or cambodia atrocities , where is the human right organisation? all are dead before you asshole even speak, millions died in cambodia during the khmer rougue ,where the fuck are the human talking cock organisation?? Save yourself better, we singapore came up with this perfect system that make us being the world safest city, GDP $40,000? Least corrupt
government has the right to take our life away, Government has the right to take our freedom away and government has the right to take our money away... The causes of such right are justified such as murder and thief but not for speaking out our mind... sad =(
@MrJonslife - Pls do not tell people you are a Singaporean cos you are a disgrace to us. If we do not have this death penalty, do you think you or your family can go out at night and come back safely? If you find Singapore Law disgusting, pls do not call for Police if you have any trouble or engage a lawyer to fight cos they are using Singapore Laws. Maybe you can consider emigrating to Australia and sleep with the kangaroos. G'day.
To those who criticise Singapore Law and jurisdiction, take care of your own country laws before talking of human rights. Why there are so many foreigners wanting to become PR in Singapore because our country is the safest with our own laws. Because of your so-called human rights, your country is so messy. Take heed of your own before you speak of others.
As part of the civilised world you must stop the death penalty. Some peole you kill are actually innocent. Believe it or not. I have boycotted Singapore Airlines because of your policies. I am Australian with a Japanese wife. We have boycotted your country completely and I will push for my more boycotts to your goods, services and trade. Singapore is a joke. Your human rights record is disgusting. Your time will come.
@newromantic888 I agree with you, and I as a singaporean has no power whatsoever to stop this disgusting rule. But boycotting goods is a pathetic and useless way to protest against singapore's death penalty. SIA is still working so fine even with your boycott.
@newromantic888 and Aussies have a perfect human rights record? Tell me, when will Japan's time come for its atrocities that it even now attempts to hide? Plus to be honest mate, nobody gives a shit about your Japanese wife, you just wanted to write it somewhere didn't you.
@newromantic888 - beware that one day your japanese wife will chop off your head as what they did in the world war . You have already forgotton their atrocities in asia, world and their behaviour is civilised? Using a bayonet to poke a baby boy as training? Have you seen the war videos? Do you need a copy? Dont act like an angel but the fact you are the devil in disguise. Dont teach us what to do as we elected this government because we like their way of handling the criminals , end result ,safe

Deterrence against crime with draconian laws.
It's pathetic.
It's pathetic to assume a moral nation can be built out of fear of punishment.
