i am interested in useing a unite like one of those to convert my air compresser into a gas operated package thinkina bout useing about useing a honda engine
well, I do get a lot that have suffered motor burn out, the one in the video was suffering a current leak to ground. but a lot of failures have been because of shoddy installation, loss of oil, contamination etc..
I did have a 3 cyl model that threw a rod and jammed but that was because of oil loss
Apart from th one in this video, which was in perfect working order,, the Australian made Kirby copies of the Tecumseh compressors rarely fail, I've never had another one after the one in the vid
man those are some nice solid hunks of machinery! I found an old compressor out in the woods back in '01 and spent 3 days cutting it open with a hacksaw man what a job trhat was! it was seized, but I got it to work!
I think thats around 1.5Kw or 2 HP, not too sure now, it went last week when I did my motor scrap run. would make a great air compressor if it were still in its housing, but somthing that size draws a lot of current under load so count on 16amps on your US 110V compressors of a similar size.
at 2;26 you drop the reed valves on a silveer cannister you call it the discharge manifold why is it shaped that way is it a baffle or something for oil return?
I cant see any way for oil to return to the crank case from it, aside from going all the way through the cycle, I'm guessing its to dampen the discharge pulses, along with the passageways in the head. so the compressor runs quieter, and the discharge line dosn't vibrate either, which could cause metal fatigue.
those are sum mean looking compressures,an air brush compressure cost 350 to 800 dollars here
i may hit the junk yard i keep saying that but here thier real assholes ive been there, its wierd the junk biuss here is all the same type of dirt bags with attitudes
yeah1 I've seen some nice ones but the prices are crazy. a reciprocating comp the size of the electrolux would be perfect.
Avoid rotary or scroll compressors for compressing air, they rely on cold refrigerant gas to cool them a lot more than reciprocating ones, plus theirs the problem of dieseling if oil vapor mixes with the air when its running hot.
What is that ring at the discharge tube at 3:27 ?

you should make one of these compressors into an air powered engine using some solinoids to time it

they are tough!, its mainly lack of oil, or liquid in the cylinders that kills them!
I can well imagine using a hacksaw to cut one open!, a 4" grinder is hard enough!

I'll cut one open next time I get one.

good comment i was thinking the same thing exept i didnt take it as far as metal fatigue on the pipes
