I can't find excert 3 with the chanting.. Can anyone help. I heard it on radio 2 a few weeks back and have spent the time in between then and now searching for it!!
Absolutely, totally compelling music theatre. I saw this, after waiting many years, at English National Opera in London last year. I've never seen an opera that looked as good on stage - it was beautiful. Twenty years before that, when I was a music student, I saw Akhnaten and I still remember it. I don't know why we don't get more Glass over here in UK; his stuff packs the place out, when it's on that is.
Saw the San Francisco Opera performance of this opera. It was one of those evenings . . . suddenly you look around and realize you and the entire opera house audience is on its feet cheering, and crying and clapping and not quite believing the wonderfulness of what you've seen.
This Record is from 1983 in Stuttgart, Germany - very NICE !!!

Amazing stuff...almost Verdian in scale. Quite chromatic by Glass standards. The ladders look pretty stable to me:-)
