GREAT MEMORIES COMING FROM THE BIG APPLE AT ROSELAND BALL IN MANHATTAN ISLAND..........I SAW GLORIA GAYNOR IN PERSON AT THAT LOCATION.........!!!!!!!! awesome show under lights..
I love this song............................still groovin' out 2 dis shit.....Gloria Gaynor is the original disco QUEEN, and there ain't no doubt about it.
In "Dancer from the Dance" by Andrew Holleran, he mentioned this song in a pivotal scene and I have been looking for this song to see what the scene is about.
Even the Les Paul / Mary Ford version is also a re-make, but the most popular version by far. The song was orginally written in 1938 by Nancy Hamilton and Morgan Lewis for the Broadway show Two for the Road and sung by Alfred Dake and Frances Comstock. The first recorded version was done by Benny Goodman in 1940. Ella Fitzgerald and many others recorded it. It was also featured in the Matthew Broderick movie Biloxi Blues.
thanks for posting this remake. I Have been searching high and low for this. i hope to find Under My Skin also. Early disco tunes when Gloria Gaynor was the Queen of Disco (before Donna Summer showed up) . There were 2 queens of disco Gloria and Donna.
Disco Ball 9 @ Trump Taj Mahal Casino Atlantic City NJ on Sat Oct 16, 2010. Live in concert GLORIA GAYNOR, Santa Esmeralda starring Leroy Gomez, Sister Sledge, Rob Parissi of Wild Cherry, The Trammps featuring Earl Young, Musique, Anita Ward, Rose Royce, Norma Jean Wright & Luci Martin formerly of Chic, original performance group LIME, Sugar Hill Gang, Peaches & Herb, Linda Clifford, WCBS FM DJ Joe Causi & Smokin Joe Frazier.
This song was first recorded by Benny Goodman back in 1940 for the musical "Two for the Show", and then later became a #1 hit for Les Paul & Mary Ford in 1951, and so Gloria Gaynor took over and had a disco remake of "How High the Moon" when it was a disco hit in 1976. This was after "Never Can Say Goodbye".

Thanks so much for posting this. This one of of my favorite "records" when I was in high school. I lost ALL my LPs in Katrina. Please post Casanova Brown!

Did you know the original was from !!! 1951 !!!!
by
Les Paul & Mary Ford, with the same title.

@mrapina Donna Sumer stayed far more famous than Gloria though. Donna still fills up arenas, Gloria lost her vocal ability. I love them both though.

"I lost ALL my LPs in Katrina"
So sad about that, I know what it feels like.
My country, Liguria, is often plagued by floods.
I hope you found a room after that shame,
and I wish you to find some nice Lps in the future
