  • Holy #$%^, that was a 56. That's incredible considering how fast they were going before the last 400m.

  • Wow I'm more impressed by that tall white guy running alongside him almost all the way.

  • @Densegrandeduvan Yeah, I mean, he ran ahead of him pretty much the whole race.

  • @Densegrandeduvan thats craig mottram, that guy has a personal best of 8:03.5 for two miles

  • @Densegrandeduvan thats craig mottram he's nasty

  • that was an intense end. i woulda loved to see the rest of the race. Great vid tho!!

  • nice song :)

  • Now that is how your supposed to race!

  • why are they so skinny? no offense, im just curious.

  • @ssshah3333 Well they run a lot.

  • @ssshah3333 Because why would they want extra weight carry around?

  • @ssshah3333 The weight thing and plus they burn a hell lot of calories running around aaaalllll day aaalllll week. They rest only one day a week and that is an active rest.

  • so legit

  • Targat vs Haile in the 2000 Sidney Olympics, that is still the best finish to a 10,000m race I have ever seen.

  • my old fathers cousin cant spell his name, he say; Haile Gibressie

  • Comment removed

  • all turnover. damn.

  • 1:20 Many people criticizes Haile, but not his opponent, he actually congratulates him at the end of the race. I wish all athletes had the same attitude.

  • prefontaine: thats chicken shit

  • @lwtrojanbboy He's actually only 8 inches taller.

  • that white guy looks like a giant!

  • @bluefooteddoobie He's 6'2" So not really.

  • Gebreselassie should be shamed. He used Mottram in the most insolent way. Maybe he was scared that he will lose with white guy?

  • @bjj2907 Elaborate please. Is strategy considered "insolent" these days?

  • @MrPhilosophicalpanda Haile looks like he don't want to be tired when Mottram works hard for his result. I'm runner and i know how iritating are those cowards hiding behind backs.

  • Why is that white guy so happy? He just lost..he was ahead, and was "out kicked". Shoudn't he be mad?

  • @BobbyFischer0000 He became the first Australian to ever break 13:00 for the 5,000m in this race. And besides, getting beat by Gebrselassie was pretty much guaranteed back in his prime.

  • when i was in high school we called that being walked down..

  • from the stands it probably doesn't look like they're running as fast because of how smooth their form is. This camera angle is perfect for showing how fast they are traveling.

  • Ultimate drafting!

  • @lwtrojanbboy Less weight to carry!

  • The best.

  • I would hate to have Gebrselassie on my tail with one lap remaining.

  • Though, on the shorter distances and middle distances, the tall athlete wins. Look at the world leading (and previously leading) 100, 200 and 800 meter athletes. They are all tall.

  • @silentboyfilms I know that, I'm tall too, and I had a blazing kick when I was still competing. Only talking about his form with 200 to 300 meters left. Not easy to pick the winner before that, but when the race is on, you can usually predict an uneven finish. Haile had no trouble winning this one.

I think a slow race should have a good finish to be a good race. Like if the WC 800 is won in 1:45, second and third better be 1:45 too, or it's a lousy WC.

  • @silentboyfilms His form at 4800. He was tightening up, looking labored, had nothing left.

  • Craig Mottram is a great runner as well

    . When is this from

  • Not that great a finish, the tall guy was beat by 4800. You could tell from his form he'd have no serious kick.

  • The white bro has a healthy state of mind.

  • He pounces.

  • Wow, super!

  • Damn.. the last 400 was 55.

  • what do you expect he is white

  • lol, compare this loss to the guy who punched him in the head. Sportsmanship night and day.

  • most people don't recognize how fast distance runners are actually travelling around the track. to have that kind of final kick after running a fast 4600 m is unbelievable.

  • @theodorewolfgang Im a distance runner in high school who beats our sprinters in the 200m and 400m. (200m-24.2) (400m-54sec.) Distance runners don't jog their distance. We work the hardest; We run!

  • @wafflepwnify then your school has some pretty damn slow sprinters.

  • @theodorewolfgang

Probably what an average person tops out at 14mph or so nonstop and then a 18-20mph sprint. It helps when you weigh like a sheet of paper.

  • @lwtrojanbboy For a distance race beyond 800 m, height becomes a disadvantage. More pertinent features are torso length to leg length ratio, and thigh length to shin length ratio.

  • Try Gebrselassie and Tergat in the 2000 Sidney Olympics.

  • @dieterichja my favorite race of all time, just HOW did he get tergat ??

  • @dieterichja Badass race dude.

  • Buster's pretty sick, but damn.

  • I love how the other guy wasn't dissapointed in losing to Haile!

Please check out my channel & ask me any questions that u may ahve on running may it be beginning, intervals, long runs, half-marathons, marathons or injuries. Feel free to ask me anything!

  • @TheRunningSource i think is because is a honor to be the runner up when the winner is a great runner like haile.

  • @lwtrojanbboy

He has the same physique as me. and I can relate to that.

  • @lwtrojanbboy I agree that it's striking, but I'm not sure it's "impressive." The vast majority of elite distance runners are shorter men and women, which suggests that being smaller might actually be an advantage. That would make Mottram the impressive one in this regard, not Haile.

  • @redetrigan i agree, not many tall guys like mottram run as fast as he does , its impresive, but most great runners are not as short as Haile they are taller, like 5'6" to 5'10" Mottram is 6'2" and Haile is 5'3".

  • last 100m under 11 sec

  • @TomsMVP ....yeh right

  • @TomsMVP The las t 100m were in like 13 seconds

  • @runballer No look 0:55 white line and 1:06 finish !!!!

  • @TomsMVP Either way that's freaken fast, especially after running all that.

  • @TomsMVP At 0.55 thats the 80m line. lol.

  • I think Haile purposely stays behind the frontrunner and give it all out at the last round. I've seen him win many races with that method. Smart.

  • @lwtrojanbboy craig mottram is a lot bigger than most runners. bigger doesn't mean faster, or slower. it's all about being the right weight and strength proportionally. but yeah, haile is badass

  • O baixinho é fudido. Mostrou que tamanho não é documento !

  • as regards Mottram, the East Africans consider him one of their own, they call him the Big Muzungo (soz about the spelling), they say while most "white" runners have the heart of a chicken that he has the heart of a lion. They are as scared of him in a race as they are of each other, for Haile to gun him down like that was incredible.

  • Worst feeling in the world? Knowing Geb is on your shoulder as you round that last turn for the final 100m.

  • Awesome Finish. next time tho. Gay music off. Commentator On.

  • That hale ran behind mottram must save him a lot of energy.

  • this had to be mottram was at his peak

  • a white guy almost won a distance race? gtfo

  • @GammonLogic Hes not white hes Australian.

  • Love the Sportsmanship!

  • i wish that i could do 55 seconds for 400 meters at anytime

  • BEAST!!!!!!!!

  • black people rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yea this proves that height difference doesn't make a difference, im 4'11 and i run faster than my 6'4 friend :P

  • wow i love the height difference...

shows you that distance runners can get away with being short

  • why was mottram so happy?

  • @CTrotter21 dude he just came within split seconds to a legend in the sport.. theres nothing to be ashamed of losing to Haile

  • @CTrotter21 Mottram had very good reason to be happy during this race since this was the day in 2004 when he broke the australian record for 5k. First to go under 13 minutes for that country. Was an even greater achievement for him then winning alone. This was merely a run up race for Haile to test his ability before the olympics that year.

  • Love that soundtrack! Stallone - over the top! One of the greatest movies ever!

  • Your choice in music sucks

  • music is :

sammy hagar - winner takes it all
