haile will be my all time athelet, nothing is funny for me to see haile scrambling to catch the long guy . have any one ever notice there physical apperance ?it is alwayes the sprit, the endurance and the tactic that makes haile ''special ''' the daimond of long distance'''
@ssshah3333 The weight thing and plus they burn a hell lot of calories running around aaaalllll day aaalllll week. They rest only one day a week and that is an active rest.
1:20 Many people criticizes Haile, but not his opponent, he actually congratulates him at the end of the race. I wish all athletes had the same attitude.
@MrPhilosophicalpanda Haile looks like he don't want to be tired when Mottram works hard for his result. I'm runner and i know how iritating are those cowards hiding behind backs.
@BobbyFischer0000 He became the first Australian to ever break 13:00 for the 5,000m in this race. And besides, getting beat by Gebrselassie was pretty much guaranteed back in his prime.
from the stands it probably doesn't look like they're running as fast because of how smooth their form is. This camera angle is perfect for showing how fast they are traveling.
Though, on the shorter distances and middle distances, the tall athlete wins. Look at the world leading (and previously leading) 100, 200 and 800 meter athletes. They are all tall.
@silentboyfilms I know that, I'm tall too, and I had a blazing kick when I was still competing. Only talking about his form with 200 to 300 meters left. Not easy to pick the winner before that, but when the race is on, you can usually predict an uneven finish. Haile had no trouble winning this one.
I think a slow race should have a good finish to be a good race. Like if the WC 800 is won in 1:45, second and third better be 1:45 too, or it's a lousy WC.
most people don't recognize how fast distance runners are actually travelling around the track. to have that kind of final kick after running a fast 4600 m is unbelievable.
@theodorewolfgang Im a distance runner in high school who beats our sprinters in the 200m and 400m. (200m-24.2) (400m-54sec.) Distance runners don't jog their distance. We work the hardest; We run!
@lwtrojanbboy For a distance race beyond 800 m, height becomes a disadvantage. More pertinent features are torso length to leg length ratio, and thigh length to shin length ratio.
I love how the other guy wasn't dissapointed in losing to Haile!
Please check out my channel & ask me any questions that u may ahve on running may it be beginning, intervals, long runs, half-marathons, marathons or injuries. Feel free to ask me anything!
@lwtrojanbboy I agree that it's striking, but I'm not sure it's "impressive." The vast majority of elite distance runners are shorter men and women, which suggests that being smaller might actually be an advantage. That would make Mottram the impressive one in this regard, not Haile.
@redetrigan i agree, not many tall guys like mottram run as fast as he does , its impresive, but most great runners are not as short as Haile they are taller, like 5'6" to 5'10" Mottram is 6'2" and Haile is 5'3".
@lwtrojanbboy craig mottram is a lot bigger than most runners. bigger doesn't mean faster, or slower. it's all about being the right weight and strength proportionally. but yeah, haile is badass
as regards Mottram, the East Africans consider him one of their own, they call him the Big Muzungo (soz about the spelling), they say while most "white" runners have the heart of a chicken that he has the heart of a lion. They are as scared of him in a race as they are of each other, for Haile to gun him down like that was incredible.
@CTrotter21 Mottram had very good reason to be happy during this race since this was the day in 2004 when he broke the australian record for 5k. First to go under 13 minutes for that country. Was an even greater achievement for him then winning alone. This was merely a run up race for Haile to test his ability before the olympics that year.

Probably what an average person tops out at 14mph or so nonstop and then a 18-20mph sprint. It helps when you weigh like a sheet of paper.
