@fatboybob1000 well it depends on the amp.. usually theres an output gain contol on the amp itself (so one of those little dials you have to turn with a screwdriver) and yes, my guess is that its just bottoming out because your crossover is set to a frequency thats too low, so yeah try playing a tune that you like and then turn it back and forth durring the song until you find it is sounding good without bottoming out =]

@RuffleCoptah It's not actually floppy, that's just the way the camera records it. It records pixels from top to bottom, and the cone moves faster than it can capture a single frame, so by the time it's moved down on one frame a bit the cone has already moved.

look man, I'm not trying to make you look like you don't know what your talking about or sound dumb, your doing that all yourself. For one I've put so many signals on my oscilloscope that it's seen more action than Hugh Hafners bedroom. Another thing is I don't need to wire a sub up an put it on a scope to know that a CLIPPED SIGNAL hence the word SIGNAL doesn't come from the way you wire something. Clipped signals come from you cranking on the gain thinking it's a volume knob.

Why do so many people post their opinion on stuff they obviously know nothing about, These Fusion competition subs are built for spl comp ie:DB DRAG. They will take 2000wrms all day and you could burp them with double that. To judge a sub on the evidence of a youtube video is ridiculous. Having seen what these are capable of in the real world i would love to get my hands on two for my ssnw build.

@TheBrewski10 Actually when you get a set up you'd actually be better off with a bigger amp, 1. most bigger audio names under rate their products 2. you want a little head room when setting it all up, set the gain a little low to prevent clipping, clipping will kill a sub faster than anything.

Although you want to power your cones properly, overpowering will damage components. NOW, if you were to over kill an amp by 500 watts RMS, it wouldn't make a difference at low volumes, in fact it would sound better because the cones can get moved easier, but if u were to krank it your asking for trouble.

Contrary to popular belief, a smaller amp is perfectly safe for a subwoofer. If your amp is too small for your driver, it just won't perform up to its full potential. You will not damage it by underpowering it. I've heard all about clipping, but I've never blown a driver by underpowering it. Just don't severely clip your amp (sounds like junk when clipped).

Underpowering a subwoofer is the worst thing you can do to it. It is always better to have more power then less power, Set your gains right with a volt meter and you will have no problems at all but never underpower..

@cosmiccastaway2001 Have you actually tried this yourself? If you have too much power, you'll blow your sub before you've realized what's happened (trust me - I've done this accidentally!). Would you power a 1 watt driver with a 1000 watt amp? Will you blow the 1 watt driver with a 0.5 watt amp? I don't think so. All "underpowering" will do is make your driver not play as loudly. It will not hurt it! If underpowering blew drivers, boomboxes all over the place would be filled with blown drivers.
