I don't know much about steam engines. There seems to be a lot of different types out there. If you wanted to power an electrical generator with one (to power a house) is there a particular type that is more suitable than the rest?
Have you tried ,blanking off ? i did and it was a real help .but it has to be run on steam or very low air..Mark your fly wheel, adjust your nearest piston to the supply, then shut off the last 3.Increase your air to the chamber ,then watch as the first conrod moves .then stop all supply.mark the piston and remove the mark you made on the flyheel.measure the distance between the conrod and length of the adjacent conrod and take away the diff ie top heavy or possotve over negative, watch
It did come to an abrupt stop, this was caused by one of the reverse linkage bolts comming loose and wedging under the bar.Shortened the bolt and all is well.Once set to run smoothly, one should really add a drop of thread lock but there are so many bolts ,it would take a week.
The majority of these engines do not run in one direction or the other, they are a real problem to time.I enjoyed this model as it was very smooth in both directions with some nice added features. Thanks for your comment.
thank you for your kind comment jheuvel3 ,do you really have nothing better to do ?

Please please please ........ it is so silly to run this at such high revs. An insult to the maker.

It's not a sewing machine stupid

Why running it so fast? It's stupid to do; it's not a sewing machine. A marine engine does 100 revs per minute maximum.

Those are extremely rare - it's excellent to see a video of one working.

@GrosvenorAntiques I have come to belive its cos ppl try to time them on air preassure, and then fail with live steam. (?)
