Gabber means friend in the Netherlands. It is a subculture, which forked from skinheads searching for harder music. Dutch hardcore is the successor of gabber, when the culture became more mainstream.

@eklerks I'm not going to be a self proclaimed expert here but back in the early 90s when the hardcore scene grew there was no distinction, musically, between Dutch Hardcore and Gabber. The word Gabber was used to describe Dutch Hardcore ergo they were one and the same. I don't know what's happened to the scene I love over time but arguing about Gabba (which was often used as a slang short-type for Gabber) and Gabber as words just seems a bit empty in a scene that needs support to re-ignite it!
