So many people attribute htis song to Willie Nelson. He did.nt even sing rhe second verse. Roy Acuff was the first. I like that bit at the end. He tells it like it is
@Jazzbonick Thanks when I contribute a song to a singer in is only in the sense that they have the most memorable or perhaps biggest hit with a song. I rarely going into the history of a song. The song was actually written by Fred Rose.
No ned to read betwen the lines! There is a second verse, which Willie didn't record. (But most others before him did.) It's too bad, because most people leave it out, now.
wonderful job, but your comments failed to mention a little version by Hank Williams Sr, but nevertheless, you are amazing on that guitar, thanks for a wonderful listen
Great job Buck! This song was written by Fred Rose way back in the 40s I believe. Hank Sr. recorded it as well, and it has been just recently released. But ole Willie certainly made it his own.
BC-you and Shirley sure opened a can of worms on this one. My OPINION- The two lovers were parting due to circumstances beyond their control and she was crying in the rain because they were having to part. Much like, for example, he having to go to war. He felt that they would never meet again in this life but they would in the next one. Fred Rose wrote the song and Acuff was the first one to record it, as you said. 5 stars and thanks.
A country song with an open-ended conclusion...to be drawn by the listener...was the intention behind this one. It is fairly common in musicology as the composer wants the listener to be an integral part of the story. Here you have perfomed this old gem to the max.
Well I listened again and I still don't know why she's crying in the rain, but I love the song.Maybe he died, went to heaven and was thinking this! Crazy theory, huh? Don't know. Shirley
great stuff Buck! wasn't aware the late great Roy Acuff cut this originally! always thought Willie Nelson wrote this. geez not only do you get to hear great music at bucknorrismusic but you get some educatin' too! LOL!
Great perform, I'm glad to find you again on Youtube.

Now my hair has turned to silver
All my life I've loved in vain
I can see her star in heaven
Blue eyes crying in the rain

Maybe so, I have found that some of the best song writers don't always come out and say everything. They leave some things to the imagination.

Guess I've been listening without listening,LOL. I'll have to really listen and try to figure it out.Shirley
