My wife and I just got one. The insight is a well designed car and extremely fun to drive. We almost bought a used prius for the same price but after test driving the Insight we were sold. It is like driving a very sporty car with hybrid ability. I recommend it highly.
i can't figure out why they are so slow on getting the idea. Detroit is trying to keep the prices at over $30K and all I want is an inexpensive way to work without funding foreign radicals.
The Insight or Prius might be in the low 20s but if you keep the car beyond warranty end, you have to NOW factor in battery replacement. My Insight showed an IMA light. Honda Insight. System Code P1447 IMA Battery Module $5530 Five Thousand five hundred thirty dollars. That is probably more than the cost of a new engine. Buyer beware.
GymProv - Actually, the original Insight is THE reason why the Toyota Prius looks how it does today. Go take a gander at the first prius design. I'll tell ya what the toyota salesperson told me back when i test drove both in 2003 -
"really when it comes down to it, either car (insight or prius) are highly reliable cars made by car companies who know how to make a car last... what it looks like shouldn't really matter as much as it does"
I'm not complaining about the car as much as the design. Sure it's a great addition to the Honda line but Honda has it all over Toyota in ergonomics & design it seemed odd that they made this look like a 5 year old Toyota design.
My first reaction when seeing this design last fall was disappointment that does indeed look like a cookie cut-out of what visually defines a hybrid...
BUT the laws of physics doesn't change with design trends.
It's just ironic that Honda is getting slammed by for "cloning" a design when it was actually Honda who spent all the R&D in the wind tunnel to came up with the lowest-drag coef. design in the first place. That was the insight. It then showed up as a redesigned Toyota Prius in 2004.
I see your point, but I think the problem is that Toyota built the Prius and Honda the Insight. The Prius being a 4 dr 4 passenger was MUCH more practical for the market. The Insight limited it's marketability. Now, many years later, they look like the follower rather than the leader.
looks like an FCX Clarity, which aint no bad thing. looks worlds better than the new or current prius, and will probably drive better too, and be cheaper. All around, id say this is probably the only hybrid out there thats gonna make fiscal and logical sense. And to those who fret about crash safety, a car will always outmaneuver, outbrake, and outhandle any truck or SUV, and is significantly less likely to roll over. And all that is about 70 percent of the battle.

WANT SOME INSIGHT? make the damn thing not run on gas! FFS!
and btw, i feel so bad for you ppl who are fooled into buying these lil deathtraps thinking they are fuel efficient when in realty all they did was remove all the shock absorption from around the driver. LOOK IT UP. look at that damn car! if you have a head on collision, you are fucked! what is there to absorb the impact? NOT MUCH
lol google type insight you found the 1. gen insight from 1999 then search prius..omg the prius design changed from 2001,look like the insight, just 2 more door....

Doesn't it have to have a warranty that covers the battery if it breaks down below 10000mi/10 yrs?
If not, how much is the extended warranty cost?
chofizta 2 years ago
@chofizta My guess is that any extended warranty would not cover the batteries anyway.
