Remember, that at 2:14 we no longer see the other Spartan, and since this is the "precursor" of the Halo wars they wouldn't have shields and they would have never seen the Covenant before. And since we stop seeing the other Spartan, perhaps when he screamed 'get down!' he was killed. Or maybe they were going to put up a fight and he died she decided to run for cover from the tank? And the sergeant, he dropped out of contact. He could have been shanked in the back by camo Elites.

This took place in 2553, The Human Covenant war ended in March of That year. Halo Wars took place in 2535.

Presumably that was classified by ONI (even though recovered after the war) to maintain the illusion that Spartans never die. Also to remove any idea that humans may have started the war, and maintain that the Covenant attacked first, above Harvest. One last thing, as this was presumably shot before or early on in the war, the Spartans would not have energy shields, which would explain why they where killed by such a small force (even one Spartan with shields would be more than adequate).

AAH..., but the Elites first encountered Spartans in the mid 2530s, (based on the Arbiter's reaction to gray team in the novel, COLE PROTOCOL), so these guys couldn't have been before then, and couldn't have started the war (unless the Covenant's ruling Prophets suppressed the information of a new species).
