Red devil lye and water in a bucket, caution use proper PPE.= personal protective clothing like apron, faceshield, rubber gloves. Put it in the solution and wait a day . Rinse well with water and dry.

agreed. If you use a low grit(very rough) you will get scratches that will show after the final paint
