  • Well... my d3 does :-)

  • "There's nothing remarkable about a tape player that doesn't record..."

    Ha ha ha, funny!

  • Why does the video keep switching between color and black-and-white?

  • @BlackFloyd94 The video was recorded in 1990 on VHS tape, using an 1986 monophonic video recorder. The tape itself has deteriorated in its 20 year storage, imagine!

  • @levivasquez

    Wow, that's old!!

  • @TCDF22

    I wasn't complaining, just making a speculation ...

  • i just got an old walkman yesterday for 10 bucks. its still a good source of entertainment ipods are good but the cassette has its own charm that ipod can replicate the sound but not the soul.

  • Sony is Sony, apple has good products, but the sound terrain its property of japan, its property of sony, the finest audio equipment are sony, the car audio line is not bad, but just decent, but in the pro audio around the world their equipment is the finest.

  • They all copied but the WALKMAN was THE ONE TO HAVE!

  • it´s probably a good documentary, but damn they still show films that age in german schools for real faked educational purposes, god i can´t watch this.

  • Gosh, this is such a Naive comment!

This documentary as stated was recorded in 1990. That's 20 years ago, and most likely recorded to VHS. If you'd watch it back then on the BBC you wouldn't have made such a daft comment.

Digital AV, Post Production has changed too since 1990, so don't expect sharp cuts, CGI and a sensational style of narration for such documentaries on Art, Culture and the Media

  • yeah mrs teacher i´m a naive 20 something, s my d. how could you possibly critisize my opinion who do you think you are. hahaha, mommy, watch your kids and don´t dream away on the internet.

  • walkman is the best

    ipod is fuck

  • Hell Yeah, I did a project in VoTech I believe, recreating a mock ad for the earliest Walkman. I didn't have the Sony one, but a huge Sanyo unit for $80 at the time, running on 4 AA batteries. THEN I got a Mura AM/FM unit with associated battery speakers in one case, the Steppin' Out unit. Mura was the Hi Stepper, also using 4 AA batteries! I replaced that unit with a used one I still have and the Steppin Out is in my car with new Sony Walkmans, Discmans and MD players!!

  • I truly miss the days when the Sony name and the label Made in Japan was all about quality. Nowadays, Sony is no better than any other company that has sold out to the Chinese. I also feel that there is no such thing as a wow factor in electronics anymore.

  • Yes, you're right! I cannot remember the last 'wow' factor gadget I've had! Tech is so far advanced now that

it would have seemed Sci-Fi 10 years ago! Mind you, that takes me back to the Sony Minidiscs, now they were

cool, well built and small! You'd see plenty of folk using them on the London underground back in the day :) yay!

  • Another great format that Sony should've tried to improve was DAT. I love the footage between 1:36 through 2:08, and the quote that Mr. Bayley said was epic. "...anything as beautifully detailed, small, and as well made as this could come from nowhere other than Japan." The Japanese will always have the edge when it comes to miniaturization. :)

  • Yes, you're right. Funny enough though, my 32 Gig i-Pod Touch has been relegated to the shoe box since August last year as I've been enjoying my olde Walkman DD, haha

  • I consider the ipod more of fashion accessory than a serious multimedia device. Levi, you wouldn't happen to know the name of the model that Mr. Bayley is holding(and is featured in the factory footage)?

  • @videoslacker Right on. been saying that for years!

  • @videoslacker sony SOLD OUT to the chinese? i guess you didnt finish high school or never read newspaper. Sony is a japanese company and owned by japanese. the reason Sony fell behind is because they start losing creativity and innovative products, not because selling to chinese!

  • @406356690 Correction, Sony WAS a Japanese company. Their CEO is now a westerner by the name of Howard Stringer. Oh, and most of Sony's factories are in China or I believe Malaysia(once in a while I see something from Taiwan) they've actually closed down quite a few of their Japanese factories. Sony may be based in Japan, but they operate globally. Please get you're facts straight before you make another outburst like that. It will make you look less like an jackass.

  • Awesome! :) I still have a Sony Walkman lying around in fact. It's the WM-EX560 from '98, still works actually.
