Favorite tracks: Back In The USSR, Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, I'm So Tired, Blackbird, I Will, Birthday, Yer Blues, Mother Nature's Son, Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey, Sexy Sadie, Helter Skelter, and Savoy Truffle.
I don't buy into this "4-5 songs are crap" comments. I like the disjointed feel of this album - I'm sure after Pepper and MM Tour, they were done with that "theme" bit. I liked 90% of the this. Never cared for Long, Long Long or Revolution #9 or Why Don't We Do..... The Beatles were so polished in other albums it is refreshing to hear more "raw" songs - Everybody's Got Something to Hide and Cry, Cry Cry. Lennon in particular shows his originality in his songs. You know they are Lennon's

I have a cd that has early recordings of the beatles when they were writing songs for the white album. The tracks were found at john lenons home and Im not sure if anyone else has trhis or has heard it. I want to post some of it but im afraid of getting in trouble with youtube. I may post anyway with a different user name.there is some cool, never before heard shit on there!
I like everything about this album, including Rev. 9. It's got some of my all-time favorites: Dear Prudence, Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey. I don't even mind the so-called filler songs. It's like music was a giant toybox for the Beatles, and they were happy to play with every single musical style. The album's got rock, country, blues, 1920's flapper music, classical, avant garde, folk, ska, honky tonk piano, even heavy metal.
Well said mate! I listened to this in 1968 as a 13 year old kid and it still sends shivers down my back when I listen to some of the songs. An absolute "peach" of an album, no one thought that they could top Sgt Pepper then they released this LP with as you say almost every type of music imaginable. This just confirmed that they were a bunch of geniuses. Stevie G, Liverpool
I was nine when it came out in '68, but I didn't hear it till '71. I was stunned. My dad, a professional jazz musician, brought Abbey Road and Let It Be home in 1970 and called the Beatles geniuses. (He was classically trained and pretty picky about music.) Our whole family was hooked from then on. My dad even started growing his hair long, lol.
This is my favorite Beatles album - I received it for my 13th birthday back i in 1974! As far as playing "arm chair quarterback" and offering comments of what should have been on or off, I'll defer to Sir Paul"s comments that he offered regarding this album in the Anthology series... "It's the Beatles, it all good, now shut up" or something to the nature. Touche Paul!!!
I remember when I was a DJ on a college station at Franklin Pierce Colleg in NH playing this album for the first time the day it came out!! amazing stuff
This is my favourite Beatles Album, the sheer variety is what makes it an amazing album, so many musical ideas without all the trickery of Sgt Peppers. This is why I and over 40 musicians are playing every song from the Album (except you know which!) at The Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth England. I'm playing Blackbird, with cello accompanying. Can't wait. 16th May 2009.
Songs that should have been excluded: Ob la di-Ob la da, Revolution #9, Honey Pie, Good Night, Savoy Truffle, Why Don't We Do It In The Road?, Long Long Long, I will.
Yer Blues? Why? That's great, one of my favorites.
What about Obla-di Obla-da? That's not very special. As John Lennon once said, It's one of the worst McCartney-songs. I agree. Being honest, I hate that song.
@minime766 Revolution #9 has little clips from every song on the white album except for, naturally, the very last one. Ya gotta listen to it, man. Seriously. Tune in mate. It's a flawless album.
Great. Would be interested for views on your favourite tracks and any other comments please. i am doing my thesis on white album for final year in college. thanks...Long time Beatle fan!
I think there are a lot of great tracks on The White Album but there are a few duffers as well. It would have worked much better as a single album with about 18 tracks on it. Not Guilty from Harrison should also have made the album. My favourite tracks are pretty much all the ones on this video. The whole album is like 4 solo efforts put onto one record and released by The Beatles.
The beauty of this album is the amount of songs, styles and interpretations. One person might have a completely different 'single disc' version than the next. for example I don't much care for "everybody's got...", "Blackbird" and "Mother Nature's Son"
I think the white album was just another way of lennon not showing pauls face on alot of albums you can only see pauls face from either a profile view or not at all! There clues I tell U!
Great mind trip on a classic album/cd! Crapitol records never does right by The Beatles. Every other major recording artist has had their catalogues re-released in remastered form EXCEPT FOR THE BEATLES!!! The suits at Crapitol Records are a disgrace...The Beatles deserve better than this disrespect...
I'm actually glad they didn't remaster these, they sound perfect as is. They could be louder, but that should only effect you if you've got a quiet MP3 player or something
bIRTHDAY IS ACTUALLY A paul's song ( not lennon/mccartney/harrison/starr) and the proper name is Birthday, not Happy Birthday. It was comopsed to honour Pattie Boyd's 24th Birthday whilst in India. Otherwise, the compilation is lovely but I do miss the ten lacking tracks. Why didn't you include them ? Anyway, great job from you
I understand that the basic idea for Birthday did come from Paul but I have read somewhere that all the Beatles did chip in with a lot of the lyrics and direction. In the Beatles book "A Hard Days Write" it states that Paul wrote the song for Linda ( it was actually written in London on their return from India ) I had to miss out some of the tracks because I did not have enough time and the songs would have been way too short but I thought that I got most of the great ones. Glad you enjoyed it!
