man, reading thru some of the comments, i wanted to comment too, I saw someone say "saw them open for lisa loeb" thats when i saw Once Blue, but in NY at Irving Plaza during Lisa's "tails" tour, i later saw Rebecca in NYC at the living room, seen ALOT of shows over the years, Rebecca by FAR and away has the best IRL voice ive ever heard. its awe inspiring when she starts singing...
Thank you for posting. I saw Once Blue open for Lisa Loeb at The Roxy In Los Angeles awhile back. They were amazing, the way their music gets your body grooving.
Wow--this is my first time hearing this and I wholeheartedly LOVE it! Rickie Lee Jones has been the greatest inspiration in my singing life since 1979, and for all that Rebecca Martin sounds a little bit like Rickie Lee Jones, I think Rebecca has a much richer tone--I am in musical love!!! <3<3<3
It's a different vocal take than the one on the album. Saw them open for Shawn Colvin at (I'm ashamed to say I'm old enough to start forgetting the names of old music venues I grew up with). It was in my neighborhood on East 15th street across from Irving Plaza, later moved to West 21st street before closing. On the tip of my tongue. Irish bar. My friends and I rented an apartment from the owner of that club.....
"Exactly like Rickie Lee Jones in the 70s" >>> Yup, that's there, but Rebecca has more range, more bottom (talking vocals); a dash of contralto. Think Sarah Vaughan . Better yet, check out Rebecca's 2010 release, "When I Was Long Ago", for that sound. It's a very intimate work. Also, as a bonus, you get the commercial debut of America's next singing sensation, Charlie. Well, you get 36 seconds of him, but that's the way Sinatra did it, too; "Cut, print, out...baby.". (c;
This album was so incredibly important to me when it came out, I was young but I listened to it so much that I wore out 2 CDs that year and couldnt replace them over the years since it stopped getting released, I just got it from iTunes and listened to it for a week straight, I was so happy to see a video after all these years. This is my way of saying thank you so much for publishing this video. I have followed Rebecca and Jesse over the years and wish they would collaborate again. Thank you!
@86crud I think that is Calista Flockhart. When I saw her, I thought, "Oh this must have been on Ally McBeal." But this is from 1996 almost a year before Ally McBeal.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I saw this guys live in Boston, MA back in the day supporting Lisa Loeb. Must have only been about 100+ in the crowd and it was amazing. Never understood why they never made it big.
Ran into this group about time of this recording, and followed them around to several New England gigs. Thanks for everything, Rebecca; especially the music. -The Groupie
Yea, what zapwatt said. I haven't progressed much in life as this record is still my fav.
Its the 1-cd-on-a-desert-isle CD. Its a masterpiece and unfortunately we all, including Rebecca, gets only one of those. The CD is on eBay for $.01, the import is there too but much more expensive. I hope Rebecca the gets money rather than the record company. I saw them in my fav coffee shop, snagged the free cassette EP, got mesmerized then bought the CD and haven't really recovered yet. Yikes!
Thank you sooooo much for posting this. One of my personal treasured favorite songs and albums. Rebecca's solo works are equally captivating and enjoyable.
Hey! I was working in a CD shop when this album came out. I saw them on Conan and thought they were brilliant - bought the cd the next day at the store. I still have it and can get you a copy of it if you still need it. This music is still fresh and one of my secret treasures that I play for deserving friends that I know will appreciate it.
Fantastic video for an amazing song from an amazing album by and AMAZING band! This version is slightly different than the album version though. Was this a "live" track? Also, I'm DYING to get my hands on the import version of this album w/ all the extra songs. Can anyone help me out?

I loved this band way back when. Got to meet them once. Jessie ended up writing with Norah Jones and won a Grammy.

Love this song! What ever happened to this band? Rebecca's vocal style reminds me a lot of Rickie Lee Jones. It has that same laid back feel.
