  • i find funny the fact that in the album 9 of 10 songs are like 3 or 4 minutes long an this is almost 14 minutes :P

  • This song has convinced me that there is a god.

  • 3:42 fucking eargasm

  • TAKE IT DOWN

    TAKE IT DOWN

  • 10:30 begins one of my favorite guitar solos ever. Absolutely incredible.

  • You know how I know Mastodon is fucking great? Because they made a concept album about Moby Dick, and you can actually feel the weight of the sea in the songs. Also, best closing riff of all time.

  • cant believe its been so long since i bought this album f***ing badass s**t though

  • DIVING DOWN....WITH HEARTS ALIVE!!!!!

Right there, my blood boiled right in my veins.

    Favorite Mastodon song, hands down.

  • This song isn't good enough...

It's too good. Simply TOO FUCKING GOOD.

  • at the 10:00 minute mark and on = one of the greatest motherfucking riffs that has ever been bestowed upon mine ears! any time i listen to the album, i repeat this song 3-4 times just for that damn riff! mental masturbation at its fullest!

  • I love how at 9:12 it sounds so happy for 30 seconds then it goes back to pure awesomeness!

  • god, every time i hear that outro i see those fucking sailors BURN while drowning in the ocean

  • @MrTrendkill42 I always think of them already being gone by then. During Brent's screaming part they come up for, like, a last couple of breaths, before going down for good.

    What a brutal, incredible song.

  • ahhhhh this music is what i live for man

  • such a badass song

  • fucking epic tune!

  • This is straight up the most innovative guitar work in years.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol at 4:30. Better watch out Brent;-)

  • I think that from 0:00 to 13:40 is EPIC! One M0:00RE TIME!

  • 7:20 epic

  • lol all this reference to metallica. I'm sorry but Mastodon will always make good music while metallica have band breakups and call for help when they have hissy fits because they cant sort out their own problems....

  • bill and brent must be the two dislikes because i havent heard them play this live since 07

  • 9:12 made me cry

  • Tribute to "Call of Ktulu"

  • @beko5252 aaaaaaah a song from the good days of metallica :P

  • every time I hear this song, I want to grab a harpoon and a boat and go out to sea to hunt a white whale... I wonder how long I can resist that temptation

  • @horrormetalfan25 how long would you survive :S

  • @MrGamerBazer As long as I needed to

  • @horrormetalfan25 haha good answer :)

  • i learned this up to 7:11 on guitar... Its been 4 months...

  • This song is the only thing keeping my heart alive <3

    Blessed be the Mastodudes.

  • 11:44 Thats when the gods of riff woke up and said today we will bless mastodon.

  • fucking HOW CAN ANYTHING TOP THIS MASTERPIECE

  • i always hope other people get the same feeling (or better) when i hear this song.. its like it takes me on a journey, and they are trying to make you enjoy it as much as possible, and experience it the best way possible. if so, then the job is done. holy fuck this song is so good.

if they play this when i see them on January 2012 in Portugal, and i die after it, i would die a happy man.

  • I always thought the intro sounded an awful lot like Call of the Ktulu.

  • @SabbraCadabra It's because there's this one chord that's pretty similar to the one in that song.

  • I hope they play this as the encore on their current tour. I do believe I'd shit myself.

  • @Rorschach324 I saw em in '08 at Bonnaroo. They opened with Hearts Alive. :)

  • this song is full of a bunch of interesting arpeggios with odd time signatures (not so odd but not very common in metal). the last riff is epic in the Queen way LOL! I mean... its like Brian May is riffing with mastodon at the end...

I really like Brent Hinds solo here. Mastodon = great genuine band!

  • a part of the intro is stolen from metallica's Chtulhu... but i think it sounds very cool... the intro gives the impression of a ship drifting on the surface of an ocean. clearly one of the greatest works of mastodon here.

  • @isma2024 the intro is scales, the intro to call of cthulu is scales, call of cthulu stole from the earliest of early songwriters by that logic...

  • @isma2024 its not stolen from fucking Chtulhu...God cant say anything good then dont say anything at all. Can you try and live by that idea????

  • I swear to god, those two dislikes better of been accidents. I will personally hunt them down and feed them to some fucking mammoths.

  • @xBrutalB Nickleback fann

  • @guym2222 Wouldn't be surprised.

  • @xBrutalB Why disturb the mammoths while they're canoodling?

  • creepy.....like being on a tiny boat in the middle of a stormy ocean.......and getting drawn into a massive whirlpool......

  • Real deal. Not that Hunter garbage.

  • This is the rwal

  • i find this hard to have sex by myself to..

  • @eeky97 try harder, or maybe softer

  • without a doubt my favorite Mastodon song

  • @RobbertRe Amen, brother.

  • Such an awesome solo.

  • This is my favorite song of theirs. After about a week straight of listening to The Hunter I decided to listen to all of their albums starting from the beginning, Lifesblood. After making my way to Leviathan I realized this is my favorite album of theirs, and now I plan on listening to it for about a week straight. Hail Mastodon

  • @joer12892 How could you listen to The Hunter for a week straight?

It's so annoyingly boring in my ears. No depth, only 2 audible songs.

  • @JackCarver10 you're a dumbass. The Hunter is fucking GOOD.

  • @whiplashrunaway69 Hahaha, great to hear that at least SOMEONE loves it.

  • @JackCarver10 i thought the same thing until i listened to the entire album 5 or 10 more times, it's actually a really good album considering what's out there right now..

  • TAKE IT DOWWWNNN

  • masterpiece!!!! wish to come back to Greece as soon as possible..

  • The start of the song sounds like the Megalodon intro just slowed down.

  • Mastodon, System of a Down, Opeth, Tool

The Big 4 of the past 10 years.

  • @TPCproductionz All are fucking great. Mastodon is my favorite though.

  • riff at 9:12 is my fav part!

  • @capsl0ck0n More like Ktulu than any song by them brah.

  • @13Champlin Man, I came here to say this sounds exactly like Ktulu. Damn, bro.

  • Fuck Yeh

  • THIS is where its at!!!!

  • 10:05 best riff of all freaking time. And this is coming from someone who isn't even a fan of this band.

  • THESE GUYS ARE MY FRIENDS!

  • @GTPMMA1981 THAT'S COOL BUT WHY DO YOU FEEL THE NEED TO TELL EVERYONE?

  • woah what a masterpiece

  • @capsl0ck0n 0/10, but you did make me LOL!

  • @capsl0ck0n AH I TRIED TO SHOW HUH MA DICK! AWAYYYY I.

  • @capsl0ck0n maybe thats because you're 14 and metallica are the only other metal band you know?

  • @capsl0ck0n There are definite references to Ozzy/Diary of a Madman - not so much Sanitarium.

  • @capsl0ck0n Your ear must have James Hetfields dick in it, because it doesnt... at all

  • brann daylor or mike portnoy?

  • @bradly886 daillor

  • The section at 5:00 to 5:20 is so tasty

  • @faststick2021 Dude....CHECK THIS RIFF IT'S FUCKIN TASTY!!!!!!!! :-D

  • @bradly886 man.....Jason Rullo!

  • This make me wanna trip so bad. Too bad I can't find any lsd where I live. Tips please. Leviathan for life.

  • best mastodon song.

  • ohh man, the pic @ 5:18 is just so mastodonish

  • @lorand133 its in Rockwave at Athens,Greece 2007...I was there!!!!!just epic

  • Listening to this high is amazing

  • i love that solo in the end but the soing overall is freakin amazing

  • bill should grow a full beard like brents. then mastodon would be even better cause of all that beard power

  • @expensivepig all of them should. Think of how majestic they would look onstage when the wind is blowing.

  • Is there anyone who can do a bass cover?

  • magical solo!

  • The best Mastodon song ever!

  • I love the end

  • @Nexthendrix2112 .... why?

  • @MrThembones The last 3 or 4 minutes. It's just a really good solo and badass chord progression

  • @Nexthendrix2112 oh thats not what I thought you meant, lol.

  • 7:10 to 10:03 was simply amazing.

  • 1 person sucks moby's dick

  • these guyz are badasses

  • this is the BEST song ever written about the death by drowning...

  • 3:08 I can't stop laughing at that picture

  • at 9:12 they play the solo from the hum song. the isle of the cheetah

  • Could've used more variation towards the end, but amazing song and band!

  • I like this, sure, but I like The Last Baron better. That is, if we're discussing 13+ minute Mastodon songs.

  • 7:09 sounds like the intro to the song "On The Run" by Pink Floyd, but in a metalish version.

  • @noiluigi64 Always reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean ha

  • at last the full song!more than epic!

  • Brent looks like megalodon at 6:11

  • It's one song. Up the Irons from Connecticut.

  • does anybody know how the 2 songs which are now this one song are added? is anywhere in this song the point where it changes from the first song to the second or are the riffs seperatet and just in an order which sounds good?

  • @DaronManson7534 This is not two different songs. It is one 13 minute metal epic.

  • @jr34v3r I think he means Aqua Dementia and this. The ending of Aqua Dementia carries over into Hearts Alive with the waves noises. Personally, I can't listen to one or the other. I have to listen to Aqua Dementia and then Hearts Alive... in a row. Hell, I have to listen to the entire Leviathan album all the way through at least once evey other day. It really does capture the feel of a sea battle with Moby Dick. HA is the final battle... Joseph Merrick is the aftermath

  • @uiruu I always thought that this was the finale, and Joseph Merrick was separate from the Moby Dick concept. Because the first three albums end with songs about Merrick (the elephant man). There's Elephant Man on Remission, Joseph Merrick on Leviathan and Pendulous Skin on Blood Mountain. I thought they composed them with him in mind, and put them at the back of the albums as a tribute to him, and that they weren't to do with the concept of the album. Or did they just name the songs after him?

  • @Technolokron this is how i always felt about them as well. the elephant man doeesn't have anything to do with fire, moby dick, or blood mountain. plus they all have a similar sound that gets progressively psychedelic. i do think they're just tributes they decided to put on at the end in his honor, probably to represent alienation and rising above life's plans. er sumthin.

  • @uiruu I listen to this album at least once a day. It's too fucking good.

  • 05:56, brent looks like a shark. id say he is the rebirthed version of megalodon

  • ZOMG this is incredible. How can I only have just discovered this? I have every other track, save for Crack the Skye Instrumentals. Going from the Czar, into Last Baron, into this. Its INSANELY AWESOME.

  • @dandanthepumpkinman what an irony,i was listening to Hearts Alive before this :D

  • The drums are beyond words.

  • I find it humorous how every metal band has the greatest drummer ever according to the comments.

  • Leviathon? You serious? KILL HIM. KILL HIM WITH FIRE.

  • I'm a bass player. And I would love to jam with Brann Dailor any given day....

  • Opinions are not fact no matter which magazine states them. That is a fact. Understand children?

  • Problem, Sailors?

  • Great song and Pix! Captain Ahab is the best drummer!

  • 2:20 Best picture ever :D

  • Fuck the rev, with his death many awards went completely wrong.

    Brann rules

  • Comment removed

  • my favorite metal drummer is Sean Reinert.

  • Best metal drummer my balls.

    The song is good tho

  • @Shady32 Take it up with Anvil.

  • @Shady32 i love all your videos.... oh wait.

  • @crumdrum1 Oh, so now you need to be a kick-ass drummer to give your opinion on an actual drummer?

  • Well, three metal magazines disagree with you.

  • well, what can I say? I don t think I m freaking out. I did not use that word literally. I just think calmly that this is a ridiculous overstatement.

  • just blew my load!!!!!!

  • Brann Dailor is the best metal drummer ever. There I said it.

  • @jr34v3r

Too right man, best drummer hands down, every time you listen it's get better....hope the new album is a step in the right direction....i know they're still peaking

  • @jr34v3r he s not at all bad, but the best ever? don t tell me? your an American that likes to rate things. unexpected from one of your kind.

  • @nndlchModi *you're

  • @nndlchModi No, Three Magazines call him the best Drummer of the Century. Anvil for one.

  • @TheCrinison I can t even begin to state how unfortunate is your standpoint: the best drummer of the century!!!!???? c mon!!!!!! you don t really believe that!!?? even if you do, I could not care less. in order to keep the record straight, you have to know that I like mastodon and I probably like it even more cause its drummer.

  • @nndlchModi unfortunate? How is that unfortunate? You freaking out about this makes you look dumb.

  • @jr34v3r sean reinert

  • @jr34v3r actually, that would be Dave Lombardo. but hell, Brann may have the silver :D

  • @karcosur brann is so much better its rediculous lol

  • @moreplox123 there's no need to debate this, I absolutely admire Branns drumming, as well as a dozen other drummers, regardless of playing in a metal or a jazz band.

so be it dude, Brann's the man :)

  • @jr34v3r not just metal!

  • @jr34v3r haha dude jazz and metal are the almighty realms of the most driven and perfeccionist and self-demanding percussionists that ever lived. that is quite a risky and arguable sentence you've just thrown there. anyone could throw back over a dozen of names of drummers that are pushing creative and human boundaries as we speak. but hey i love brann. thumbs up anyway :)

  • @ghoawaynetcabo Drummers that are pushing human boundaries as we speak? What do you mean? Thanks for commenting!

  • @jr34v3r

He's not just a great metal drummer, he's a great drummer in general dude. He does a lot of stuff thats not even considered metal in his drumming. You never hear him use skank beats, blast beats or anything that you would find in traditional metal. That's why I don't limit him by saying hes a great metal drummer. I just consider him a great drummer in general.

  • Sick drummer

  • Nothing in this song resolves where you think it's going to and it works so well.

  • greatest dong ever? amiright?

  • @quackmac3000 it's a good song too ;)

  • @quackmac3000 it's a good song too ;)

  • @quackmac3000 lol dong

  • @quackmac3000 I'm not sure if people upvoted this comment because they genuinely agree or because they think the misspelling is funny

  • @AntiHero1996 That's the fucking point, newfriend.

  • @jake20589 Psh obviously. I admire your attention-gathering skills, sir
