I was just tell my youngest daughter about the Happy Rain show from back in my day. I actually got to be on the show when one of my little friends mommies had got her and all of us whatever was needed at the time to be on the show, so, we were on the show. Does that make me a star now? LMAO
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember watching Happy Raine as a child, and often think about her and her show and wonder if she's still in the land of the living. I was talking with some friends about old TV shows that we missed, and I was surprised to find I was the only one who remembered Happy Raine! WCSC was one of 6 channels we could get when I was a youngster in the mid-1960's!
Unfortunately, ProfSamuel, your statement about Channel 5 having tapes is incorrect. Rainey was interviewed by Bill Sharpe yesterday, September 27, 2010, and she explained that she was only given 60 minutes of tape that they were required to use over and over again, so every new show was taped over the last one. There is no historic record available from Channel 5, per Happy Raine herself.
It used to be ALL about Happy Raine and Utlraman when I was a child in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Imagine my horror when I returned to NYC to live in '73 and found that there was neither! I looked forward to it every summer when I used to visit in the summers.
I absolutely loved this show when I was a little girl in North Charleston. My mom and dad was actually able to schedule an appearence for myself and a couple of friends for one of my birthdays. Any ideas on how to locate a copy of that episode? Unfortunately, I do not have the exact date (unless it was my b-day) or the episdoe number. Any help would be appreciated.
@gprats28 Sure. Channel5 has complete copies of all of their work (or at least should have). All you have to do is contact them and see if they can search their database to see if it can be located. Hope this helps.
Takes me back to when i was a kid in Goose Creek. Back when there were Saturday morning cartoons. whatever happened to them? now they have a few politically-correct indoctrination programs..save the planet and hate corporations..
I remember going to the show at some point but am asking my sisters - seems like it was one of our birthdays - we lived in St. George and it was such a 'big' journey to go all the way to Charleston! We eventually moved to Augusta - and one of my sisters - on seeing this clip last night - wrote me with "Now find Trooper Terry" - that one will be hard! I love the opening show of HR on the horse!!! wow... this IS messed up (that I've been lookin' for this for so long! ha!)
my younger sister and our dog mabel were on this show for a benji lookalike contest. or maybe it was superguy. this is awesome. thank you. goose creek representing.
@shlabotnikj Thanks. I found the full version with the cartoon (Daffy Duck). But youtube will make me start a whole new upload. Maybe I will just upload the cartoon by itself.
Wow! I used to watch this show all the time when I was a kid. Brings back memories! Good low-cost kids' shows like this one from local TV stations have pretty much vanished. We do need more programs like this one!
@galoon So true! Local children were so excited (me included), You learn so many things, like morals, manners, simple-fun, good-whole some fun. Plus if you messed up when you are five-years old, your friends never let you forget about it rest of your life (is what happen to me).
Agreed, I had no idea I had this in my historical stockpile, until I was searching for something else... and there it was. Sometimes it is good to not throw things away, unless you have to... you never know if it will be important later.
I was thinking about Jolly Jim & Chief Silly Horse at WIS-TV in Columbia. Wish some of his shows would surface. Do you remember him? and there was the bad guy, J.P. Side-winder.
Interestingly, when I was invited to appear on this show, I told Happy Raine, that this was the second time being on her show. She smiled and replied, I do not remember you doing puppets before on the show. I smiled back and said, it was when you had me for my 5th Birth Day Party. She then had this "shocked face" and replied, don't tell anyone my age! (:> I do have the complete show, with cartoon and everything. We need the return of these kinds of shows.

I used to watch Happy Raine in the late 70's in SC. This is the show that introduced me to the Captain America, and Spiderman cartoons.

@marioTmaggot Yeah, she was fantastic. I remember those days, everyone watched the show. We need more shows like this.

Oh, Jolly Jim... it rings a bell but not too clear... yeah, I agree, we need a return of creative & clean production shows for children..
