not congratz.. shame on you! we will have people like him to thank when this already endanged fish becomes extinct.. very sad. and trapped by a net. not caught.
I don't know much about US fisheries, but I recall seeing something about the introduced snakehead being responsible for descimating indigeanous fish populations. The Alligator gar is presumably the only US fish that could help keep the snakehead in check. If this is true, seems to me the gar should be protected. A gar this size could consume many snakehead. Anyone know more on the subject?
yea congradulations for killing it fish of this size and age should of been kept alive .oh yea i would of least told people i caught it on rod and reel and not in a net.its funny how the commentater is like this fish was estimated 50 to 70 years old and then says congradulations stupid!!!!
what a shame that fish had to die....just like a sturgeon these fish take years to grow this big and harvesting them is idiotic...congratulations on killing a living piece of history
@kingpenoutdoorvideos I think it's ridiculous the way people kill big fish. Gar in particular seem to be a favorite target. In a lot of videos they use a bow too. How sporting is that? I mean, bowfish for food or whatnot but killing a huge gar with a bow for fun, it's just ignorant. (I know this wasn't killed with a bow.)
@ecollins92 Don't accuse people of being ignorant because they disagree with you. The fact is I don't object to bowfishing, in fact, I am planning on getting a bow to use on carp locally. In response to your points
1) so what? that doesn't make it right
2) that is a myth, I've read the same about bowfish and other species
3) wrong again, they eat all species of fish and precent overpopulation.
4) maybe
The biggest fish shouldn't be shot at all....they are the prime breeding stock.
@pilatunes a gars not the only fish that will take over, but bowfin seem to be alot more rare where i go. and they prevent overpopulation because their the ones doing the over populating. the biggest fish should definitely be shot, thiers no reason to breed gar
i personally like the gar but inthe south (and almost everywhere else) the garfish is one of the most hated creatures ever discoverd most people dont think twice before killing them its almost a rule in the south you dont throw gar back ever.
Most likely it was dead when he got to it; considering Gar breath air, and it was in a gill net. It's a monster for sure, not sure they should record netted fish though. Props for donating it...I'd have made them throw in a replica as part of the deal.
I would of just tagged it and throw it back into the river...

HFO is a misnomer for this particular vid. Don't you mean NFO? Netting fish is not sporting, and should not be a record for sportfish.

thanks for the video. you have a very helpful narration on the capture.

@pilatunes killing a fish with a bow is actually really sporty, it takes skill and practice. and actually your ignorant for not knowing the reasons
1. their one of the few legal fish to shoot
2. they take over the waters their in
3. they eat all the other game fish
4. they taste good
also the majority of the time your not shooting big fish, those are just the ones that get posted on youtube

I swear I saw a bigger one in Table Rock back in about 1979, it was under my boat & I followed it out to deep water where it faded away.
