Thank you, vedraville. And you're right; I never would have looked for this work, and probably would never have heard it if you hadn't posted it. If people can call the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen or Luciano Berio serious music, then this can at least be approached with the same consideration and respect on first listening.
It burns my ass when people take it upon themselves to rip and and upload things when they have no licensing rights. If there's one artist people should not steal from, it's Diamanda Galas.
Reminds me some style mixed about Kurtag from the Kafka Fragments ...and a bit of Aventures recorded in 1962 by Ligeti...Diamanda its the new wave about this music ,and in somehow Thurston moore and mike miken leading by john Zorn. BUT the Atmosphere of Xenakis ,Stockhausen ,Boulez and Cage were the pioners....we are very aware of that....This piece is the piece, lovely indeed ..thank to posted this vedraville
Does anyone know, where can i download some of her albums? Of course i'ld like to buy them, but i haven't got money :S And i'ld like to listen to her until i'll can buy them.
about people murdered during the greek dictatorship you say... You know this bears a remarkable similarity to an early composition for voices by IANNIS XENAKIS titled NUITS which is dedicated to political prisoners exiled and murdered by the fascists during the civil war in Greece.
Well,I think Xenakis has been Diamanda's mentor at some point (when she was starting out),seems like the student grew to become better than the teacher.MUCH better.I don't know which piece was recorded first though ("Tragouthia" was recorded in '84).
Well you're right too,Diamanda has referred to him as a great musician or something. You could call him her mentor. And yes Diamanda is a great artist too!She can play the piano beautifully too.
NUITS is a quite early XENAKIS composition. it was composed in 1967 while he was still concerned about political issues. I don't think though that a comparison between Galas and Xenakis is appropriate. Galas is a radical performer/singer/pianist/ composer, dealing mostly on the 'popular", if you excuse the expression, avant garde scene. Xenakis on the other hand was the most radical 20th century composer.
She's not one the popular side of avant-garde,that's bull...She's concentrated, she knows what she's doing, she's a true visionaire.Xenakis is overrated, his stuff is random,it goes nowhere. He's in the same league with Cage and Stockhausen and Mumma, you know all those guys that can record four minutes of absolute silence and get praised for that.Nothing against him,though...Either way,as a Greek I'm glad that two of the most important figures in music history are Greeks.
Cage and Stockhausen have used aleatoric (random) techniques in several-not all- of their projects. however Xenakis' composition methods were totally different and based on the logic of mathematics. his music bears the mark of its uniqueness and cannot be confused with any other composer's work.
I discovered diamanda only about a year ago. Im fascinated by the depth from which she expells her lyrics & her uniquely mesmerising and disturbing style. I read somewhere she is one of the most influential contemporary artists yet still unknown to so many so Ive set out to make my friends discover her work further and further. This is a very wonderful recording, somewhere between trance like pagan incantations and a trip to the extreme underworld confusion;could I possibly ask to get them plz??x
Thanks for your good words!I have the original record too but I managed to transform it into a cd form. The result was very good and I still have the record. :)
It is to me fascinating to see how Diamanda has evolved through the years. I absolutely love to hear the earlier pieces and thank You for posting this. I still cannot wrap my brain around her range, but I continue to listen and love, appreciate the gift of her talent. She is one of those entertainers whom you either worship or do not want to bother with. I am of the former category! Viva la Galas!

"SHE IS POSSESED BY MULTIPLE DEMONS" This is what a fanatic baptist-most probably- bigot, said about her, in another video...

A unique and rather underrated recording.Truly beautiful. This one's about the people murdered and exiled during the Greek junta of '67.
