Only german tuner Oettinger provided the 1.6 EG and 1.8 with a DOHC set up, but it was not VW Factory made....

But the engine itself is legendary...(Cams are not chain driven )

this is a 1.8 , 8 valve.the quickest way to identify one is the plast wind deflectors on the A pillers.

i had one of these in exactly the same colour..it looked exactly the same as this with the same wheels too....wish i never had sold it..

1.6 & 1.8 are OHC 8Valve engines.

The Golf GTi MK2 has a1.8 16 valve DOHC.

First set up was the EG engine from 1976 until 1982...During that period a 5 gear transmission was fitted with the code , FM.

For model year 1983, which came into production after the summer of 1982, the 1.8 litre DX engine came into production.along with the 7G 5 gear and at the end the 9A transmission,

All of the engines were single CAM and not DOHC!

The 16V DOHC , chain driven, only appeared in 1986, KR ...
