I think your review is a bit bias and you have to consider that alot of people buying the cameracorder are poor and cannot afford to buy a canon just to film these kinds of things.

The problem with the TH1 is that Sanyo worked too much on the bells & whistles, and not enough on the basic elements that mattered the most.

I have an old Pentax K1000 film camera with the original 50mm lens. Completely manual, no auto gadgets. It was one of the cheapest and one of the BEST 35 mm SLR cameras you could find simply because Pentax concentrated on the basics. The camera produced fantastic pictures way beyond its price range.

Sanyo neglected the basics, and produced crap.

I got a Kodak Zi6 at Sears for $80. Now the Kodak Zi6 has a 1.6 MP sensor. The Sanyo only has a 1.1 Megapixel sensor. How many pixels does the censor have to be to shoot good quality HD video? I just know the sensor probably isn't helping much when trying to shoot in HD.

The Kodak Zi6 shoots 720P HD video at about 9MBS. The Kodak shoots at about the same rate as the Sanyo. The only thing the Kodak doesn't have is extra features but I got the Kodak for $80. The Sanyo is $250 at Radio Shack.

Technically, you only need a 2.1 MP sensor for 1080p, and a 0.9 MP sensor for 720p. But the sensor size is not the whole story.

Sensors don't detect light in a linear fashion. They detect it in a logarithmic fashion. The camcorder's image processor is suppose to compensate for this along with rescaling the image for the proper recording format.

It's a combination of the sensor size and the quality of the processing circuitry that determine how good or bad the recording will actually be.

When you see the canon that TheCanadianPublic did you'll sanyo is junk. Sanyo might have some nice low end camcorders like the one they have Sanyo Xacti CG10 that goes up next to FLIP camera. But Sanyo is not high end.

I do like the pistil grips they do feel nice to hold.

I would never use the pistol-grip models, especially in the USA. Someone might mistaken it for a gun and shoot me! :)
