wow, i can't believe they allowed comments. yeah, i lived there for 8 years. Depressing hole. I liked Washington street and the mountains. No money in Cumberland though. The old people want to keep it old and dying too. They once had something like downtown Friday nights or something, was going good with live music and businesses open. The old folks shut it down. What a shame. Now the prisons likely moved in their trash families since I have left in 2002. I'm sure it has gone downhill.
In every video people make of Cumberland, MD they only show downtown and Washington St. I live here in South end, and it is no where near as 'glamorous' as they make it seem.
Sec. 4-3. - Keeping of livestock prohibited; exceptions.
No person shall keep or allow to be kept, on any premises in his possession within the city, any cows, ... mules, hogs, sheep, goats or chickens... . Nothing contained in this section shall be construed to prohibit the maintenance or operation of a farm.
Unless you get farm permits first. We had to. And they still tried to force a home occupational permit on us. LOL
look save your self i grew up on maryland ave and ran through out the city it ain't about shit no work i moved to Los Angeles and work at a movie studio making 85,000.00 a year i couldn't make much there hjust seasonal shovel snow for a buck. get out when your young or suffer the rest of your lives
About the only reason people come back to this unfortunate dungheap is to be BURIED, because cemetery plots in the area are plentiful & cheap, and most
of the remaining population either resides there or will shortly.
Job market is tough every where but here IS REALLY tough. If one can work their job on the internet and/or bring their own job then everything is else about perfect.
Their are clans but new clans form and break up almost monthly in my street. One guy got arrested and went to jail, and things were quiet the whole time. They let him out two months ago, and the clan reappeared... blah. Back to jail please!
VA or MD are rough and I'm glad that the people selling drugs are getting busted.
I live in Cumberland (South End) and I do think its a beautiful place. I go downtown pretty much everyday with a few of my friends and its beautiful down there. The only bad thing about this damn place is that there's no jobs.
OOps, I think this video needs an update. Factories are closed, two drug busts just last night, no video of Md. Ave or Va. Ave no video of the low income housing projects and the fact that Cumberland is so clannish and doesnt have any oppurtunities for anyone not born with a silver spoon.... It is beautiful though.....
Don't bash the town if you don't like it. All you have to do is move like I did in 1988. I still go back to visit my family every year. A town is what you make it. So wherever you live try to add something to your town. Cumberland,Maryland will always be my HOMETOWN.
I have lived in Cumberland for 27 years. Sad to say the job market is very bad here, but, it is a nice town to live & raise a family in. Shopping...well, nothing here, but drive an hour in any direction and you can find what you need.
i live here and yes this video is about it save your money theres nothing here but a craphole in a mountain with emo kids no stores or anything for anyone under 60 to do or enjoy if your a teen or even a younger adult dont waste your time
It's sad but you've seen everything that there is to see in Cumberland in this 2 minute video. The only reason I would ever move back would be to be with family, not for the city itself.
Indeed, a beautiful place to live for 75 years. Cumberland HAD excellent jobs to RETIRE from. However, now the most common complaint in Cumberland is "no good jobs"... above poverty wages etc. The young population is leaving to survive or some have "acted" crazy to get on disability as no one will hire them. People need to eat. I know a guy working for less than minimum wage at a garage just to have a job.
i live in cumberland my advice: RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

Now at 1 minute and 4 seconds this scene was not in Cumberland it must of been close to Pittsburgh in Pennslyvania.
