How old is the battery ? seems like it probably got overcharged (could be a bad charging circuit in your ups)......The batteries in these go bad every 2-4 years, thanks to them being hooked up to a 13.8 volt float charge all the time. It causes the batteries to vent, dry out and malfunction. In my old unit, mine just dried out and stopped charging....It dried out so bad, that the glass mat in the battery broke off and I could hear it when I shook the battery.
