Even if they released a 99% virulent virus onto the Human population, I have a strong feeling it would mutate very quickly into a non-virulent form. I reckon most of the hype about the world population being killed off by a virus is just that - hype. They would have to modify the virus to remain in a virulent form for the longest possible time with few mutations. Also, they would have to find a means of releasing it mass scale, including the man power to accomplish such a feat.

There was also one case I read about years ago where only one family member had the exposure to the bird and the whole family came down with it and they feared it was airborne at the time.
