Pendulum is in a PS3 game... I would call that mainstream. Pendulum used to have some great tracks, now they're the most repetitive and predictable artists I know.

Most DnB acts are awfully similar to eachother making them tiresome to listen to over a lengthy period of time.

Pendulum have added riffs and synthlines to their music, and simplified the rythms a bit and thus made themselves accessible to the common audience. That makes them more mainstream, but not quite there as they become some sort of middle ground between DnB and hitlist music. Mind you, the "mainstream" reference was to "the mainstream of dnb artists".

I think the problem with drum and bass today is the fact that yes, it all now sounds the same. I'm so sick of a wobble bass over a predictable 4/4 rhythm. That being said there's still an endless sea of sub genres in drum and bass which is what should be listened to far more today. Intelligent dnb, jungle, jazz fusion'esque, hardcore, breakbeat, drumfunk, darkstep, jump up, they all have something to offer. Pendulum plays power chords and turns the drums into a boring loop, I can't handle them

Who cares anyway if something is mainstream? The only thing that matters is if you enjoy it. I hate it when people diminish music because it is mainstream or commercial. Not saying you do but in general. Being a musician is not a well paid job, so it is almost impossible to just live from your playing. Most do studio work or do a lot of workshops or make songs for tv or games. Music is an art but it is also a buisiness.
