Guys the real reason that song got cut was because at the end of the song the paper gets torn up and thrown on the stage and Stephanie D'Abruzzo pointed out that there was no way they could pick it up and it would just get in the way. Blame stage logistics.

Unfortunately, now if you just throw it away, they will send you a certified letter. What you should do, is when the prosecution and defence use their peremptory challenges to eliminate potential jurors they do not like, state to everyone that you will determine the common law and statute in the case yourself, and not by the instructions of the judge. They will dismiss you from jury duty immediately.

Or ... you could tell them you are a little bit racist. That could also work :-P

Actually, this song never made it into the final production -- it was cut late in Off-Broadway rehearsals because it had no relevance to the plot, and because they couldn't find a way to dispose of the torn-up ticket, so it remained onstage through the rest of Act One. True story!

It's not on the original cast album (altho you can hear the melody behind dialog in "The Money Song"), but it is on the CD that came with the commemorative program they sold during the Broadway run.

This was obviously a recording that took place before the show came out. It happens when the show is running too long or they can't put the song anywhere in the plot where the show makes sense. Adding this one song is only two minutes but they'd have to make a point in the plot that leads to this which can add a lot of time to the show and they like to keep them to a time limit.

@johncerasi Funny you should say that, because Marx & Lopez originally conceived Avenue Q as a TV show - a Sesame Street-style satire, with Sesame Street-style puppets. Couldn't sell that, unfortunately - so with the switch to a stage format the problem became, what do you do with the puppeteers? They finally just decided to dress them in black and let them walk around, unconcealed. That's why Avenue Q has that unique staging situation. Just a bit of useless trivia to brighten your day.
