i have so many good memories of growing up there i lived there from the time i was till the time i was 1 till the time i was 10 then we moved to shitty kearny in 05 god i miss it there
I lived in Belleville about 30 years ago. At 1st I missed it, but as time went on I realized getting out of there at that time was the best thing my family did. Back then it was about 80% Italian, but even then you could see Newark which bordered it to the south was creeping in. It was only a matter of time before Newark metastasized like a cancer into Belleville. Newark, now there's a tragedy. It was so beautiful in the 40s ans 50s. Then the 60s came along with the riots and it all changed.
I relocated out of Belleville 20 maybe 21 years ago. I relocated to central Jersey/revolutioary war country/retreat route country. it is preserved and publisized so i found the amateur historian in me. I looked back at Belleville, studied it I am educated that Belleville is New Jersey's Boston, the historic church at the river might be more priceless than old north church of Boston. CELELBRATE REVOLUTIONARY WAR BELLEVILLE!!!!
I have lived in Belleville most of my life and i'm pretty happy here. I was expecting this video to be about special landmarks in Belleville, but what the person showed in this video is on Washington Avenue close to the Newark side. In my opinion, the part closer to Nutley is nicer.
I grew up in Belleville on Hornblower Ave. Lived there from the ages of 4 to 16 years old. Moved to PA about 30 years ago. I have a lot of great memories growing up there; Belleville Park, Washington Ave, Jackie's Lemon Ice, Claremont Field, hanging in Rutgers Court or the Library or the Junior High on Washington. I moved on a long time ago but still think of Belleville and the great childhood I had there.
Belleville is gone.
