@ohbiggles I also heard her on Radio 4 and couldn't believe how relevant and passionate she was. Don't know if she's on the school syllabus but I'd be happy for my kids to study her poetry. However not sure if her poetry will have the same resonance on the page. May need to be heard for the impact. Her poetry really is a performance.
@sierradelta07 funnily enough, im an alevel student! i study english literature, and she's not on the syllabus. however, we're encouraged to read/listen to poetry by others, to put poets like Duffy into a bit more context.
In an attempt to get more people involved in the poetry events at school I read some of this poem.
I shook as I read it out before 500 of them but the pause afterwards really echoed the power of this rhythmic performance poetry.
I found it hard not to get too involved in it as I read it but it seemed to have an impact. Hopefully I will see the fruits in the upcoming home-grown evening.

yes well we came across kate at the secret garden party and she surely is quite a force of raw love, extraordinary our eduction system still lets a gem like this slip through the net.
Now tell me the right woman is poet laureate.
A title made meaningless by Kate.

I will think of you when all the city longs to sleep
I'll keep 'em up, screaming out the secrets I don't want to keep
then I'll call you up in tears, knowing you don't want to speak.
but fuck it, whatever's come to pass, I hope that you, like me are sure
that the love was always real and the intention always pure
and whatever people tell you, fuck 'em, they'll never love you more
just I wish I'd known to love you right before. <3
