  • also it's multi use, a baton

  • In the eastern woodlands an axe is the best tool you can have you know how to use it.It is more multi functional it can do what both thoose tools do plus more.It may exspend more calories to use but try to cut somthing

longer than the saw blade or split a log.

  • trapping >>>>> this shit

  • I eat a lot of rabbit, raise em, I slaughter with a short piece of pipe, Iv'e killed 300+ pound hogs with a 12 pound sledge hammer, blunt force is great and quick. Rabbits are a plenty if you know their habitat and schedule, they even freeze on sight for you. I believe they were one of mans fist prey.

  • And if someone were running at you and you had that in your hand, you could take out a 'Shin Bone' with ease. It would be a silent way to take down an aggressor. OH! And you have just sold me on the use of this weapon/hunting tool. Nice work Dave and thanks again. You looked like you enjoyed making this video too.

  • what kind of saw is that i need one>?

  • You also have to remember that there were more rabbits back then.

  • an axe is good if you need to split bigger wood

  • There was an article in a recent issue of Backwoodsman magazine about rabbit sticks. If you carve the wood flat into a boomerang configuration it spins faster, has more accuracy, and has lift to keep it above the ground more.

  • right there- BAM!

  • That little growth would have been knocked off in a couple of seconds with a hand axe. Meanwhile, sawing, sawing...

Yes, I'm nitpicking. But I hate saws.

  • 1.56 "...any day of the week and twice on Sunday" you made my day!

  • hi dave

  • doooooooo

  • PLUS... if you miss the first time you're fucked. This is not an effective way of hunting.

  • @freezazoid The point is that if thats all you have got, its better than nothing.

  • when are you ever going to be 15 feet within a rabbit or any other animal before they bolt? This is stupid.

  • @freezazoid mating season when the young males are too brave for their good. what are you like 10? know your stuff idiot

  • Chopping a 4 inch notch through wood with a knife or axe is simply less efficient than cutting a 1/8th inch slit with a saw. It's like digging a trench in the dirt with a snow shovel, rather than using a narrow trench shovel.... but worse.

  • Lol its funny u can hear cars inback around =_=

  • could u please share a way to humanely kill a snapping turtle for food?

  • i don't know if you have made i video on this or not, but is there any practical or effective use you could get out of a bola? i've heard people can hunt birds with them and was just wondering what your opinion of it was

  • very good aim and lethal impact

  • What kind of saw is that? I don't see any in the W.O. store and I'd like to know what brand since it looked like it was quite effective.

  • Anyone wanting to go on a trip with Dave can look up his school and sign up for classes.

  • You are a great aim er, good blessings to yoy, you will always be a survivor bless by our Lord Yeshua.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust:Ps.91 :-)

  • i think dave is the son of chuck norris

  • cool trap. i bet you hate it when people ask to go on a trip with you

  • @aarilyTV this comment is to perfect look above yours

  • HEADSHOT!!!

  • i would love to go on a trip with you i need to learn more about survival and hunting my dad never took me hunting as a kid although there were many opportunities

  • p.s. I live in CO.

  • I have a great amount of respect for this man, and I have watched most of his videos and tried many things copying him. I wish I can go on a survival trip sometime, I have done everything in my backyard.

  • Gooo south paws!!!

  • heh, rabbit stick sounds like rabbits dick

  • AWESOME DAVE!!! I'm 22 yrs. old and have lived in southern illinois all my life and have learned alot of hunting and survival techniques since I was young but you always manage to show me something new. Thanks for being a badass!

  • Personally, i use a stick with a diameter smaller than my wrist ( i have skinny wrists), but still works just fine. Its quite faster also. The rabbits are quite fragile creatures, so it doesent take a lot of force to kill one.

Thank you, Dave for another awesome video.

  • Try throwing it backhand. I throw it that way and I've taken out quite a few packrats, groundsquirrels and rabbits with a stick.

  • i preferr a hatchet

  • are you left handed or what for the throwing stick, anyways dude i idol you man

i tried sling and i suck.... lol

  • @pagelock5 based on his other videos, i think that he is left handed

  • Have you ever killed anything with it?

  • won't the rabbit run away if your that close or start to swing the club?

  • @gunzfactory if its a smart rabbit.

  • on a

    sow

  • hi dave can i come with you o a dual survivle i am 11 and a hunter and fisher

  • @adancingrain ha bullshit! your 11 you have no idea how hard it really is to survive in the places they go, and they wouldnt take a little kid for free to do something that every fan wants to do.

  • @XxServalcat24xX wow, give him a break

  • @adancingrain dont we all kids wish we could go im 13 but how many can really handle it???

  • Go to 5:37 with transcribe audio on LOL

  • @Tux3d0 Funny! "and a woman of self reliance situation". lol I am going to have to try this on other videos.

  • Hey Dave make a boomerang! they come back when you throw them! use less calories!

  • you really are my favorite surviving expert cody is a hippie

  • This video was pretty awesome, i watched it cause im going going rabbit hunting tomorrow. Thanks, this was really helpful

  • i would kill muskrats with that thing!

  • @ahrramin oh i forgot to mention 100 feet of paracord 550, best stuff ever, usually i wrap it around my walking stick

  • @FueledByTyeler I'd rather throw a stick. More reach, heavier, and isn't my tool so if I lose it, I just make another in about 5 seconds.

  • @ahrramin i have a cold steel bushman.... look that knife up and then find me a way to break it. best survival/ utility knife ever. its forged from one piece of steel. its easy to throw. the handle is hollow so it can be used as a machete with the addition of a handle extension. i do a lot of "bare bones" camping. i've gone 2 weeks in the woods all alone and all i took with me was my cold steel bird and trout knife (skinning and small tasks), my cold steel bushman (work horse) and my hand saw.

  • i can throw my knife just as well.... and why does it take 8 minutes to show someone how to make a "throwin' stick?"

  • What ever happened to "Dual Survival"? Did it get cancelled, or does it still come on?

  • throwing that stick like a true marksman =)

  • i think id rather have a rifle or 22 cal 88fps air gun

  • killa caveman

  • can Dave be my renta dad??

  • @ossuary13 no hes mine!!!!

  • Dave I love you and your videos but you aint got shit compared to a drunken Australian aboriginal throwing a beer bottle at a police officer or white person. haha

  • This work for Zombie also?

  • Is there ANYTHING!! you CANT do Dave

  • @Hofgoblin can you not make a throwing stick? cause that would be an issue...

  • @FueledByTyeler sure i can find a stick but i doubt i could bullseye Everything like dave. you coy smartass.

  • would this take out a small fox

  • looks like elmer fudd's got some competition.

  • it seems good but the fact is rabbits (and all other small game, seeing as they are always being preyed upon) are constantly on edge and looking for danger, and they would spot the movement of your arm and get out of the way in time. unless the rabbit was facing away from you, or you just got lucky, it's very unlikely you'll get a rabbit. even to stalk that close takes extreme skill. although in a survival situation, anything will do, even if you only get a meal in1 in 3 shots you attempt.

  • @aaronrushton1 I hunt rabbit frequently, and it's really not that hard to get that close to a rabbit, especially when they're in panic. I've had plenty of times where I was flushing rabbits with sticks and rocks where they ran right into me, sometimes they get caught in thickets and you can walk up and grab them. People have been using tools like this to hunt animals just like that for hundreds of thousands of years, don't overthink it, it's not hard, lol.

  • Thats cool I might try to make one

  • DUDE i never thought a rabbit stick could be so interesting!!! Thanks for the great vid

  • Hit a deer in the head with that, thrown hard, if It doesn't kill it, you can definitely go get it

  • I got that same exact saw! Love your videos and your show! keep up the good work!

  • canterbury rules!

  • Mind you though the Australian Aboriginal is a crack shot when it comes to throwing beer bottles at police officers, and white people ha ha

  • @xann1 It's OK, Native Americans (of which I am partially one) never did get around to inventing the wheel. But Casios, now we are talking....

  • Incredible it took the australian aboriginal 40,000 years to come up with this most primitive of tools.

  • Would this shape of wood also be good for a bow?

  • tha axe guy you mean the hippie guy or "no shoes" lol

  • Pretty Awesome.

  • Just an opinion, I'd rather an axe or hachet.

  • nice one man

  • weve always known themas tinkers sticks ( gypsie} should only be no kore that 18 inches with a weighted end.

  • out of curiosity why doesnt he mention codys name? is their relationship strictly business? idk they seem like pretty good friends on the show

  • @rabbitcat928 look when the video was made..

  • @Ccoach55 oic thank you

  • were did u get ur multi tool and what kind do u reccomend and were did u get the knife

  • is the guy in the story cody lundin?

  • @eagles454 No it is not.

  • your bad ass. glad you got your show.......

  • I love this stuff I really wish I could just live in the wilderness... I grew up on a farm with my grandpa but ended up with my parents in a city went to college got so far in debt becasue of it and cant even get a job... oh what I would do to just live like this and share your knowledge

  • he look like willie nelson

  • "Simple construction, easy design, very effective, that's what... self-reliance is all about. Keep it as simple a possible, using the least amount of tools and the least amount of equipment and keep yourself sustained..." Sound advice for any area of life.

  • Great vid Dave it really is amazing how the simple devices work the best. If you lose it no big deal make another one. Also as the Pathfinder course teaches multiple uses for the same object the rabbit stick can be used for many purposes, a baton, pry bar, fire stick, handle, digging tool etc... A reminder to anyone making off color comments, there is a young audience out there learning from these videos and reading all of these comments so let's be a set a good example

  • thumbs up for left hand throwers

  • Dave I just ran across your videos 2 hrs ago and im hooked! Awesome info! Itchin to try it out myself. THANKS!

  • how affective is the rabbit stick

  • @wildernessoutfitters i have to correct you, the boomerangs aboriginals are hunting with DONT come back!!! only the new boomerangs will. because they have airfoils!!

    love you videos!:D

  • cant that also be used to hunt birds?

  • "I'm goin' back to throwin' my rabbit stick." That's a riot!

Until half an hour ago, I'd never even heard of this man. This is my second video, and I'm already hooked on his videos. Righty, I'm off to watch some more.

Thanks for the interesting videos Mr. Canterbury.

  • id probably do a lot worse so great job

  • I was taught to throw the stick not side arm but not overhand either. Like at a 45 degree angle. If you think about it-side arm if you're throwing low or high you'll miss. Over hand you'll miss if you're off to the left or right. To me it seems logical that a 45 degree angle would give you the best of both worlds. What do you think?

  • hey im a big fan of Dual Survival, what is it like to try to survive with cody?

and its such a simple weapon i cant believe i've ever thought about it

  • The golden mean,or Phi,,,,,,look it up,it will explain all about what the length of your arm is all about.

  • im a big dual survival fan nd wat is it like to try to survive with cody

  • im a big fan of dual survival nd wat was it like to try to survive with cody

  • nice rabbit stick effective tool for hunting

  • You say "Rabbit stick" I say throwing stick :) Same thing I guess, Good video though, thanks for posting it . We need to keep the pre neolithic knowledge alive, never know when it'll save your life right.

  • use it on a rabit... =)

  • I might tie some type of marking on that, it would be easy to lose it amongst downed logs and sticks.

  • The sound one of these makes when it hits a jack rabbit is BRUTAL!

I was bored and made one then went up in the hills and took a rabbit with one easily, clipped the head of the rabbit and it went down. (No I did not eat the bunny sorry) But I did feed it to a friends falcon

  • @krackannv at least something ate it

  • @DrShakalu619 True true, and at least it was fed to an injured and endangered creature. But I have to say the gyre that ate it is a very happy (Well seems happy even with being a total pain in the ass) bird.

  • would putting a point on each end be worth it if somone had time to put a point on it?

  • @BigWheelaCatPeelaYea - since it does not hit the target with momentum along the length of the stick, probably not. It is, as he says, a 'blunt force trauma weapon', not used to impale.

  • hahahah ONLY if they miss they come back. :) i'm pretty good with a rabbit stick :) love your videos Dave!

  • rabbit stick is survival 101, don't dis it!

  • sometimes i think im born in the wrong time... how nice must it be to live in the wilderness e.g as a trapper

  • @britfin007 and other fools

If you were trying to survive this is a viable option, i don't understand why there is any need to dismiss this idea or take the piss out of it, unless you just don't have a clue. Dave has mastered bows, slings, guns, traps etc and is showing another simple and fairly effective hunting method.

Dave has probably has forgotten more that you even wish you could find out in a lifetime.

  • not bad

  • the rabbit stick is retarded.. your sling bow rocks, either way somone needs to give you a tv show.

  • works on wife up to 400lb very effective when hunting over ice cream baits .

  • @gamagoat666

make sure to use it at about 300# otherwise there's no way to drag to your cave

  • @funkycowboy get rid of her..why the hell did u marry her????..so dumb dude..never get married anyway its a big trap and all bullshit,,stay free..dont follow everyone else..marriage and kids and tons of bills..Fuckin Sucks!!!!

  • @funkycowboy -- dude, that's seriously disrespectful.

  • Hm, could this be used on birds?

  • could be a club for spliting wood or attacking cougars scull.

I guess a tool of many uses.

    thanks

  • baaadaaasss!!!

  • .Any day of the week and twice on sundays" LOL

  • that creek looks exactly were i used to go fishin and hog hunting and bowfishing in .... that brings back better times....

  • I don't think you're right about that. He explained right / left eye dominance in the archery video and how important it is to shoot with your dominant eye side. It's even more uncommon for one to be left-handed and right eye dominant than to be ambidextrous. It doesn't matter. The guy's freakin' awesome. That's all I'm sayin.' The rest is arbitrary to that fact.

  • OK. You shot your bows right-handed. But you're throwing the stick left-handed. Freak of nature, man. You're a freak.

  • human is danger

  • you are idiot humans arent a danger. RABBITS MULTIPLY EASILY..THEY REPRODUCE VERY FAST..AND AROUND HERE THERE A PEST YOU CAN GO IN MY BACK YARD WITH A 22. AND HAVE A HAY DAY.

  • Aren't the rabit sticks aerodynamic weapons with a biconvex cross-section?

  • Is there something you can't do?

You are doing a great job!

  • "every day of the week, and twice on Sunday." :) Way to show him up Dave!

  • Cool ! My grandfather was real good with those he would even get partridge with it .

  • love the story to do with the saw/axe situation, me and my partner are the same

  • get a branch with a curve in, cut it to arms length and throw it at your wannabe meal, what could be easier.

  • its like a boomerang

  • You are a great shot with that stick.

  • @blackthorn1975 just practice its really not that hard..when u spend all your time in the woods and not at a desk all day.

  • Bacho Laplander Saw

  • Good video Dave. I caught myself chuckling loudly in a few places.

Great good humored presentation !! :-)

  • whats around your neck

  • it's a Mora knife, check out the Mora Knife video on the related list -->

  • You have to be a fool to give this vid or any other of Dave's a thumbs down. Learn and burn knowledge into your head. Good throws too by the way Dave.

  • was that meant for me

  • I got an australian aborgien boomerang. When i tested it ( in a veeeery wide area) , as i throwed it it made a very wide turn a came back almost 1-2 meters next to me as a first throw...

  • its aboriginal. n if u can use them they are fucking deadly against small game

  • can u show us how to make a primitive spear

  • he does have a video for it

  • I once had a boomerang (a commercial produck here in the UK back in the 80's), it was not very good regardless of technique. You had more chance of throwing a bottle of beer & it coming back to you than that thing! Wasnt cheap either!

  • do the maximum with the minimum....

    simple as that !!

  • im glad your back.... you should do a thing on a burrow stick

  • i have made those before, they rock! but for northern washington in the mountians where im at its all bears and fish so i like spears and big boy rifles. even know im a little guy.

  • cool vid

  • An excellent demonstration

  • so is basically a large boomerang

  • No Bommerangs are made to come back to you! This will not.

  • There are returning boomerangs and there are non-returning boomerangs.

  • most aborigine hunting boomerangs are not returning...

The boomerang was mainly a weapon, but also used for hunting.

  • @wildernessoutfitters it is actually a boomerang, Australian aboriginals have used these for centurys, white man made the boomerang return. nice job thou :)

  • @jam3rr The boomerang is one type. Most cultures used throwing clubs which is what this variety of weapon is called. They fell out of favor with many cultures as the bow replaced it. However, they remained common in areas of limited resources. Australia and the American southwest being two areas in which they could be found. Read about the Hopi and such tribes in the US in order to learn more about their use here.

  • @wildernessoutfitters What do you call a bad boomerang? A STICK!

or in this case a RABBIT stick.

  • @wildernessoutfitters this statement is actually incorrect. The aboriginals used returning boomerangs to flush small birds in nets. And the other type of boomerange is used for throwing at emus to either break their neck or legs. Trust me i live in Australia and live in the country and we did a 2 week program on visiting local indigenous communities.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Hunting boomerangs do not generally return to you though.

  • @wildernessoutfitters hunting boomerangs dont come back. the ones that do are made to throw over birds on the water so they fly up and you can throw a hunting boomerang at them.

  • @wildernessoutfitters no not the real bummerang the real one was like the rabbit stick but better crafted and they where used to hunt

  • @wildernessoutfitters not all boomerrangs return. there are ones that are called killers and they are used to bring down larger animals such as kangaroos etc. great vids keep up the great work.
