@NYerintransit I doubt that; the Democrats don't believe in FREEDOM and neither do today's Republicans, that's why the Republican leadership wants Romney to be the nominee because Romney would be "more of the same."
People in this country, primarily Republicans and even Independents are sick-and-tired of "more of the same" no matter which party is "doing it" that's why I like(d) Herman Cain, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum; three men who offer something other than "more of the same."

@andy1sim Americans voted for Johnson because they all wanted "something for nothing" and Johnson's "The Great Society" made the New Deal-era work-relief programs look like chump change in comparison.
If only we'd have had his leadership at that critical time in the war in VietNam. I'm sure that war and several other events in history would have turned out better.
@ToxicOdiousOne So would I. It was not only unwise, but to the extent that it seeks to regulate private business it unconstitutionally violates rights guaranteed by the ninth amendment.
@AcePilot101 The party of freedom that raped the Constitution? Sorry, they're both equally worthless. However, I have a bigger problem with the Republicans. Their fusion of religious fundamentalism with politics is pretty terrifying. Look how well that combination has turned out through the years.
This guy is further right than Hitler... ! By European standards, Republicans are right wing extremists, Democrats are right wing, and mainstream American thought borders on right wing extremism.
You apparently have no understanding of the United States Constitution, let alone what liberty means in general. Barry Goldwater was a conservative who was abandoned by the Republican party's left leaning tendencies. Fascism is a right wing ideology. American conservatives are just living in the time of the Puritans and kicking and screaming as they're dragged into the 21st century.
I just do not understand the ideology that righ-wing policies constitute less government. They want to take away a woman's right to choose and make that choice for them, they want to send us to war with no justification, they want to tell you whom you can and cannot marry, they want to impose religion on everyone even those who do not want it. There's lots more, but I'm sure you get the point. How much bigger could government get?
I know Goldwater was a REAL conservative... it's the Bushes and the Reagans I take issue with. It sounds like you're a real conservative as well. Sadly, those Trotskyist neo-cons you speak of have taken over the GOP. Other than Ron Paul I can't think of one real conservative in the party.
To be fair, Reagan had a lot of true conservative views but was just surrounded so much by neo-cons. He personally did not appear to be as neo-conservative as his presidency might suggest.
2. European AND American "left wing" politics and policies are overwhelmingly illiberal and contrary to any real notion of "progress."

In your mind, you know he is right...far right.
This guy was the least talented politician ever. Politicians have to be subtle in there message and not be overtly blunt. No wonder he lost in a land slide.
I remember that election! LBJ won in a landside! He was the peace candidate. That old Goldwater was going to start a war! Americans were still in shock over the JFK assassination. Americans were fooled big time and we got Vietnam. Bastards got away with it again!
how prophetic! it is amazing to see that this generation of Americans IS (or is becoming) communists. How sad! Thank God for the great men of American history like Mr. Goldwater. We need more men like him today! Who's with me?
We don't have great Americans like Goldwater and Reagan anymore...Probably never will. Since Clinton, the bar has been lowered so that any old idiot can get in the White House...Look at Obama. Goldwater would have been a great Prez.
I find it amusing that you hooligans are on here blaming the Jews for all your problems when Goldwater was in fact part Jewish (from his father's side.) The family name was changed from Goldwasser after Barry's father converted to Episcopalian.
As for you anti-Semite jokers, I suggest you'll find a more welcoming atmosphere on WAR or the United Klans website, where you can dump what few pennies you have towards their rapidly dying cause. (The real Klan was bankrupted in 1991.)
Isn't there a video of G's acceptance speech? Bet that would embarrass the party of today. It should be. Today's financial crisis has been caused not by a free market but by everything that Goldwater opposed -- the manipulation of the market by big government.
A rather offbeat example but remember the Arsenio Hall Show? Top ratings and a prime slot then Farakhan was allowed to appear and the show was moved to 1AM and 'dropped' because of bad ratings. Yes, Hollywood is controlled by a Jewish minority.
I actually thought it was controlled by left wing anti semitic idiots who didn't know that nazism isn't popular. That bad ratings thing can wake you to that fact.
I'd say a good reason for high social status of Jews is because while 40% of American highschool graduates go to college, 85% of Jewish highschool graduates go to college.
Honestly, I've had enough of the idiots like you on here telling ME that I'm part of some World Order conspiracy when I wake up every morning, eat my breakfast and go to work/class just like anyone else.
Let me ask you, because you fuckers never seem to know the answer. If there is a Jewish conspiracy, what is its goal?
Actually dude, wikipedia and youtube is the most egolitarian forms of media known to mankind, where YOU are the source. Read the article yourself. Its not biased, it just explained the situation the same way you would. Only I'm not the crazy one believing there is an underground Jewish plot (STOP SAYING JEW WORLD OR JEW THIS OR JEW THAT). There are no Jews in the president's cabinet, but I just used my friend google to find out there are 10 Jews in the Senate and 27 in the House.
The United State's has no interests in the Middle East? We don't want to establish democracy in Iraq? Take away nuclear power from Iran? Oil? Replace a culture of female inequality with American ideals? What is this "the Jew"? There isn't just one Jew, theres about 5.8 Million in the United States. And after wikipeding the USS Liberty incident, it was tragic. Neutral beings come under fire during war time all the time. If the US was in war (or scared), wouldn't it be extra cautious? (Airports)
Well, the answer to that is because when most of the US government's foriegn interests lie in the middle east, an ally is needed in the area. Where do you think the US receives most of its intelligence from? How about military technology? What about a military base?
Jews make up 1/10 of voters in the U.S., if you have a problem with that, then vote. Jews also have very influential lobbyists, and I really hate the corrupt lobby system in this country, it must be altered.
The reason why this man lost by a landslide was because he was so stubborn in his personal ideology that he did not adhere to the public opinion. And what was the public opinion in 1964? The public was ready to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Goldwater was one of the only Senators to be opposed of the Civil Rights Act. In other words, he can suck my liberal balls.
Barry Goldwater was a real true conservative- not one of these authoritarian power mongers in office today. He truly put his country first and fervently believed in fiscal prudence, strong military, strong diplomacy, small government. Dr Ron Paul is the closest person I know to Barry Goldwater in today's political world. After Obama, America will be ready for conservative ideals again. Its a cycle. At the end of the day NOTHING is going to actually change; just peoples perceptions which is good.
Very true. However, I think the liberal area won't last 4 or 8 years of Obama. It will most likely last 20- some years of Democratic/moderate presidents, before the public will change. This will probably be after the Democrats reestablish a sound economy and carbon emissions will be a distant worry. Also, another war will have to arise 20 years from now... or our conservative government will create one.
I know they serve the same power interests. But, individually each person has their own interest - for example if *I* am elected I get the perks from the lobbyists, whereas if the *other* guy wins I don't.
But, there is definitely only one group controlling the country, we both agree on that fact.
Could be, but I don't care who it is. Because the solution doesn't change if it's 'fanatical muslim terrorists' or 'zionists' or 'alien-backed facists' or anything else.
Regarding the comment below, from s2586201 - it is funny - but keep in mind the Republican party is full of ex-democrats (who also said on TV that they are ex-leninist/communists- see youtube on Bill Kristol's dad).
Barry Goldwater is the father of pyramid scheme "AmWay" economics.
His plutocratic ideals would end American Democracy and coddle crony capitalists around the world.
We need to Kick corporations out of our representative democratic government, and demand transparency from it NOW.

First off, Goldwater disagreed with everything you just said. He was staunchly pro abortion.
Well, women have a right to choose before they're knocked up. Does a mother have a right to choose to murder her child? No.
It is the left, not the right that seeks to send us to war with no justification. Only the Trotskyist "neo-cons" favor senseless wars.
As far as marriage, I personally oppose marriage licenses entirely. I personally recognize marriage as only between a man and one woman.

Funnily enough it is those same Republicans who perpetuate corporate communism and corporatist governance.

It's amazing that 44 years later, we are still fighting over this election. The old man had some great ideas.

if this country was actually run how it was created ( a constitutional republic ) we wouldn't have half the problems we are facing today.
