wtf, all these coments... it`s like they are comparing an american mustang with an italian lamborghini... none of both is better than the other car, they`re just in two different fukkin stylez... some people think chinese people are hot, others think americans are hot... same with cars man... you want a ferrari because of the way it is,... because its easy broken... but thats what makes it a ferrari and not a buggati.
rolls does make beauty`s, but thats MY opinion, even thow you think they`r not
1. many German cars are extremely unreliable. VW is the worst, I'd drive Chevrolet over VW anyday.
2. Some cars are overpriced
3. Germans do not really know how to deal with the new technologies. No wonder the Japanese automakers like Toyota already have excellent hybrid technologies when the Germans are still stuck with diesel.
4. the premium German automakers these days are cheapening, they use cheap materials these days as well.
Having driven every model in the Phantom range, the Ghost and most of the BMW range....and a few American cars... I can assure you, you have no idea what you are talking about
Jap cars are reliable, and are very synthetic. Ferraris have very bad build quality and are beautiful. german cars are very reliable, very well built and very well engineered. Phantom is well engineered, hand built and ugly, yet the most refined understated luxury in the automotive world.
lo..I have driven many German cars...I work for the BMW group at Goodwood... I know a thing or two about German Engineering, particularly the car in this film. You should base your comments on fact or first hand experience, not speculation and opinion. Do please tell me about the 'cheap materials' that you mentioned earlier...?
You work for the BMW group? What do you do, serving coffees?
Hmm, if comment was baseless, then you should see more people driving used BMW or Mercedes on the road now, but that is not happening, is it? Last time I checked, the most reliable used cars were mainly Japanese, no German completely. And the Consumer Guide on 2006-07 once gave Mercedes the lowest score on reliability. BMW, lower than average. In 09, not much change still. Only 3 series got better.
You talk nonsense..."you should see more people driving used BMW or Mercedes on the road now,"..???????? the streets of Britain are full of used BMWs & Mercs. There is such a high demand for used BMWs here that I have to replace my company car every 3 months to feed the market. Maybe you are referring to old (+10yr) cars...
btw, although the coffee at RR is good, that is not my forte, quality is
That's pretty sad. And I am not talking about some 20 year old cars, I am talking about around 2000 ~ 2005. You don't see many of German cars in North America, but you will see more Japanese cars.
I would assume the Brits would drive more BMWs or Mercs since the country is pretty small compared to North America. More like do they even need cars?
But here in North America, you need cars that can drive for a long time, and last longer. So the Germans are counted out.
maybe next time you are here in UK, I will show around the manufacturing plant at Goodwood. The wood is not plastic here and, as I said, the coffee is great.
I would love to. But just so you don't get it wrong, I myself am a BMW fan, and I just don't like to see people telling lies. I myself have experienced both Japanese and German, and seen many reviews, so I know why I tell you that the German engineering has a serious flaw in reliability.
Hi! I've got myself a german car (a VW) without flaw in reliablility! I've had 3 golfs and an A2 Audi without any problem. German cars are over taxed in the USA, so they're too expensive. The Japanese have factories in the USA so there's less taxes and by the way are cheaper. American cars are badly manufactured they only have good old motors.
You don't know what I mean by saying cheap materials? I can see you don't work for BMW, or even drove a single German car before. Let's see, great example would be the E46 I used to own(If you don't know what this is, google). Fake wood material looked so cheap to me.
And in the 90's, BMW has started making X5, but the X5 still remains to be one of the most unreliable SUVs ever. BMW still can't even make a single decent AWD, or SUV, and also recently they canceled the BMW flagship. Well?
I rode in/drove a phantom in San Diego last week and I loved it.
There aren't 10 million buttons for neck coolers, self steering/braking, night vision cameras, or full body massage seats, just pure, beautiful LUXURY.
I would always go with Rolls over Maybach anyday.
Maybach is a techno showcase of expensive toys; Rolls is about style and simple elegance.
Maybachs are better.

The Germans breathe life into Rolls-Royce, also into Bentley and Lambo.
Engineering is ,what Germany is known for. Best carmakers on planet earth.

Actually, most of the guys working on this model are still coming from UK. They have the leading positions for this project.

and the problems with the German engineering:

Let's see, then are you saying the German cars are reliable in general? Phantom, BMW and the American cars...and no Japanese.
Now I see why you are so ignorant about reliability. Thank you for telling me that.

I really wonder where you get this German cars being reliable idea from. It's not like the German cars get popularity just because they are reliable.
Maybe you seriously should drive 2 or 3 German cars first.
