WAIT! Is that....vocal HARMONY I hear?! UNHEARD of these days. :P Fountains of Wayne is absolutely unappreciated and underrated. These men are fantastic musicians, in every sense of the word. They're innovative and insightful, while staying TRUE to music. I saw them in '03 at a large venue, and was rendered speechless at how phenomenal they were live, and the LACK of response from the multitudinous audience. Hopefully, they'll have a KILLER comeback, without compromising their music.
This is a great band. Catchy tunes and clever lyrics. The songs always tell little stories, much like the songs of Ray Davies -- and that's a real compliment!!!! I hope they do more soon!!
Adam (the bassist) actually went to the same middle school as me. they're all really cool dudes. They did a show at the university in our town for a fundraiser for our middle school.
Still trying to understand why this band wrote that song, "Stacy's Mom." It's hard to picture them as womanizers. Maybe it was the drummer that wrote that one? lol
Have you even read the lyrics to that song? He is with Stacy, then he sees her mom and instantly becomes infatuated, then he says I don't care if it's wrong, but she's hot, so I'm in love with her. Is he trying to show how shallow some people can be, singing in character with as a typical young adult? That's all I've got.
little bit of a stretch don't cha think. streetlight manifesto's thomas kalnoki is infinitely better. i've been a fan of FoW since the beginning but best ever is a strech
They respect their own music and sound enough that they dont need to run around like idiots to get the crowd going...have you ever seen classical musicians jump around during a symphony concert? Some groups are very animated, and their music requires this activity, but fountains of wayne is a chilled out kinda band, so their stage presence is commanding without being overly flashey.
The singer is such an amazing songwriter. The way the words flow into one another are just superb, which is why it's such a let down to see that they have such limited charisma when performing.

You really don't have the literary prowess to compete with me.
If you knew anything about popular music performance, then you'd probably know that a huge percentage of that is not always about the music, but the actual visual stimuli.
Please don't try and be clever; it doesn't suit stupid people. Especially when people like you never realise that it takes nominal effort to reach for the shift key to start a with a big letter and then push that little dotty thing to finish a sentence.

that song is hardly about womanizing, and did you ever stop to think that not every band writes literally? what a naive outlook on songwriting.
