@tiredoflogins I am not sure I understand the question.. However the easiest way to check a faulty touch on keyboard would be to simply plug in an external keyb and check whether it works. If it does its the keyboard thats faulty. If the keys do not work with external keyboard then I am afraid this will need mobo replacement. Check whether keyboard connector is properly placed. Let me know if I misunderstood your question. thanks
@onarol The external keyboard works fine. I got a new keyboard from dell, but there's something wrong with it. It has two O keys and one of them works like the I key. The other issue is that the shift keys do not work at times. So that is erratic. the external keyboard works fine. thx for your suggestions.
@tiredoflogins I am sorry to say that you will have to request for another keyboard from Dell. If it does not cost too much extra try getting the backlit keyb. Are the erratic typing symptoms still around?
Great Video !! Can you make a video on replacing the fan / cooling unit in an Dell Latitude E4300 ? I need to replace the fan and some advice / a video on doing this would would be much appreciated ! Thanks in advance.
@onarol Great video. I need to replace the entire backcover and display on an E4300 and looking for video to help me do this. Any chance you have one, are going to do one or know where I can find one?
@Hoziejd1 Let me try and find sometime to put a up a video as this is a popular request from lots of users. You have to be careful as to not break the edges of the casing when doing these simple tasks. Let me get back to you soon along with my gorilla pod and some FULL HD coverage!
Thanks. This is not identical to the e4310 as there are two plates to remove at the top of the keyboard (top left, and top right). They pop out similarly.
There also appears to be a screw behind the battery. I removed this, but am not sure if it is needed to be removed.
@loughlan the screw does not need to be removed FYI. I am not sure about your model but I removed it exactly the same way I did the others. Appreciate the tip for users' who may be have it different! cheers!
Hi, My Dell E6400 laptop's keyboard is suddenly producing random letters or non at all when I try to type. (A few drops of water may have fallen onto the keyboard a few hours ago) Do you think that if I follow your instructions to pull off the keyboard and put it back on, that might fix the problem ? There is another video I saw of someone "reseating" the keyboard. Anyway, thanks for this video.
Two things. 1st you can try holding a hair dryer at an angle and try and dry up all that water before it seeps into the motherboard / system. dont hold the dryer too close.
you can always say that its faulty and demand a replacement. these are sent by post usually provided it is still under warranty
second, you can try removing and re-seating the keyb as I have explained. The sooner the better as you do not want to take a chance with water seeping through. Is your keyb backlit?
I have uploaded a how-to removal of a Dell Latitude E4300 series laptop.

FYI The E4310 has a screw in the center but you need to take the battery off to get to it
