@diegonimus I am doing other projects, so unfortunately I don't have the time to update my videos to 2.6. I am writing ebooks these days. If you go to amazon dot com and search for my name, you'll see what I've been up to.
@irakrakow The way you explain things is fantastic. Makes it easier to learn, wasn't hard to understand. You must have teacher experience. I'm not exaggerating either, this seriously did help a lot!
Nice well thought out tutorial. I especially like how you explain which keys to press or which mouse buttons to use instead of just using them and leaving the viewer wondering "How did he do that?"
ok i can get all the controls done and i know how to model a track but i want to make a marble game and i dont want it to just move. I want it to be a smooth movement. So i thought torque? well that rolls it a bit but it seems as if there is no friction. and when i eventually get it going im unable to stop. will any measure of "weight paint" fix this? any other soulutions? thanks.
From what I know of Blender the Weight Paint you refer to is to help refine the control of your mesh movement and deformation for rigging an armature to a model, Im not sure how it would help a sphere, but to be fair I don't use it all that much so it may have different uses in the BGE. You might want to look at creating function in python that has a var which sets the amount of friction(-force) to apply when your hit test is true.
I seem to be having trouble with with my python scripts after having ported my game to blender 2.5. An example is my mouse look script. It worked in 2.49, but when I open my file in blender 2.5 (alpha 2) it doesn't seem to work any more. Any suggestions?
@irakrakow this is not working for me....i m currently using blender 2.55 beta....and whenever i press the 'R' or 'SPACE' key, the object fell off from the plain instead of bouncing first...by the way blender 2.55 is a little different from blender 2.50 (only with sensors and controllers tab)....CAN U HELP?
i wish there was a book that was worth the money that told exactly how to make a full game in blender i would by it for shure but then again u cant actualy make a game in blender o and it dont even exsport models to use man its so crap that only company with millions and all the resources in the world can make a game and to think of it iv been programing for years.
The Blender gamekit, from the blender store, has a CD with 10 games built entirely in Blender. It can be done. To do a great game you probably need to get into Python.
While the "Blender Game" is selected instead of "Blender Render" go "game" at the top left hand side and then tick the "Record Animation" box, press "p" to start the game engine, "esc" when you've gone as far as you want, and you will then have IPO curves that were recorded from the GE, also make the the object is selected before you start the GE as it wont record anything, lol i should make a tut on this lol
Well put! The Blender Game Engine really is a fantastic way to produce results as to what will happen if certain variables are adjusted, and to experiment with different circumstances in a viable game environment.
Yes. From the Game Menu, check Record Game Physics to IPO. Then run the game, doing whatever you want. Press ESC to end the game. This creates IPO curves. In the 3D window, press Alt-A to see the animation. To create a movie, go to the Scene buttons (F10), change format from JPEG to AVI or MMPeg4, set the output directory, and press the ANIM button. Blender will render each frame. At the end you should have a movie. You might have to adjust frame rates. Watch this video again to see why.
Go to the Blender Video Tutorials section. There are forums for different types of videos...User Interface, Mesh Modeling, Rendering, and so on. Pick one of the categories, go to the topic of the video you want to view, and go to the Watch the Video link. You can also read the script if you go to that link. To download a video, you can do it from Youtube.
Good one but you forgot thing s like "bounds" for the physics. You cube is falling in a weard way so you if you set it to bounds in box it will fall without mistakes..
Thank you for pointing it out. You're absolutely correct. The bound should be "Box". There are a number of other possibilities, which I'll discuss in a future tutorial.
I appreciate the tutorials, but I wonder if you really want to do them on the alpha which may have as much a s year until it sees daylight for general use, instead of 2.49b
You're absolutely correct. I go back and forth between 2.5 and 2.49b. Frankly, the problem is that the 2.50 videos attract more subscribers than the 2.49b videos. However, more people use 2.49b. I try to figure out in the alpha version what is most likely to stay. If something works in both, I go with the 2.5 version. If it only works in 2.49b, I go with 2.49b. Eventually everyone will migrate to 2.5, but not for a while.
I only started using blender 2.5 Alpha a couple of days ago. Your tutorials have been invaluable, particularly as it's very tricky as a beginner to watch Blender 2.49 or other version tuts and try to translate to 2.5 Alpha.
Great tuts :) you should have shown the collision bounds and how it used to make bullet treat the box like a box. Instead of a sphere. But think thats part 2?
That's right. There are a number of collision bounds available. It might be Part 3 because BGE animation is next. Animation is a bit more tricky in the BGE than in the 3D part of Blender.
did you ever make a part 2 ? because i cant find it :/

@goshfather They won't work. They have to be rewritten in Python 3.1, which is totally different. Also the Blender API changed.

To record Game Physics to IPO you need to use Blender 2.49b. This feature hasn't been implemented in 2.50 yet.
