I've always read coming off beta-blockers is a gradual process. I was given beta-blockers, 2, 25 mg Lopressor a day for inappropriate sinus tachycardia, which equals 14 days of medication. Im an avid cardio fan, and was wondering, if i run out of meds and workout, is my risk of heart attack higher?
@serpentinecreature Ankle swelling is not a side effect of beta-blockers, but of the underlying disease that is not fully treated. You should consult with your physician about the ankle swelling.
i'm a BSN student @IU school of nursing...beta-blockers don't cause ankle swelling. although, i remember my teacher telling me that Calcium Channel blockers can cause ankle swelling, right?
@ed4nurses Thank you for your response. What am I to believe, when ankle swelling is listed as a possible side effect in my accompanying leaflet with my medication? The med that I am taking slows my heart rate to about 60-65 bpm and the ankle swelling begins. When I first wake up in the morning my ankles are normal. After I take the pill (atenolol),the ankles swell.I do not know what else to say.
@tomcat624u its not a lecture, this is for people who understand the mechanism of action already, i guess he is laying out the basics. Pick up a book and afterwars watch the vid, i found it to be useful.
@tomcat624u there are many types of hypertension drugs digitarcos are different casses class1= sodium blockers class 2= catecolimine blockers, class 3 pottasium blockers, class 4 calcium blockes. As for beta blockers they have afinity of beta receptors (b1 and b2) cardio and bronchio, causing (-) chronotropic influences and bronco contriction. try understanding the basic mechanism of action for each group of hypertensive drugs. I'm sure you will do fine.
@jnthnbatista THANKS FOR THE ADVICE,BUT I KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THIS CLASS OF MEDS. ENOUGH TO KNOW, I'M NOT GONNA TAKE THEM ANY LONGER! HAHAHA HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Thank you! Extremely helpful for nursing school (currently in a BSN program). Appreciate the clear and concise message. will be great for my future patients. Muchas gracias!
@tomm5911 If by your doctor you mean pediatrician or General Dr they probably wouldn't want to put you on such a dangerous medication at such a young age for a superficial condition. If you see a dermatologist you may have a better shot, yet they probably have a different medication that can help.
all pharamceuticals create side effects. beta blockers are a failure because they cause negative side effects. only used during trauma use, not for long term use. pharmaceuticals destroy your liver and kidneys over time.
Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some say they hear, do it.
OMG dude thaaank you,... my pharm teacher couldnt have explained it better she sucks,.... thanx u sure have the art of teaching down to "KISS" i appreciate the help
