  • I use a wheelchair and thank god I have gotten too old for claire's hot topic is also a hard one for me but I refuse to not go into this shop I was born with the most debilitating type of Spinabifida and I also have been on stage for singing and acting and I know what that's like I deal with stupid questions from annoying people all the time

  • I am always shoving racks to the side so that my daughter can get through stores. I bet it drives the sales people crazy - oh well!

Another wheelchair life adventure is FINDING the most direct accessible route through a mall, restaurant, store, or sidewalks. Our small town seriously needs an accessibility consultant. A cross walk in front of the town office building had to a curb to get to the road, ramps to the road were100 yrds away. A couple of phone calls & a year later - it's fixed

  • kyle shop on line

  • someone cheer me up

  • I think these Atypical blogs are an interesting contribution to advocacy but I really like it more it's either targeted towards those at least somewhat up on disability issues or if not that-then focus on people who have no idea what a wheelchair even is.....the extensive description of how to propel a wheelchair is a little much but for the rest of the message I found it interesting.

  • i saw a girl in a wheelchair at claire's once. hmmm.

  • We got them here on the West Coast too, Kyle, and trust me, I went in there to get my friend something, and yes, I too, cut my hands. A|X are awesome and there are many others like it. I totally agree with you on the total accessible issue. Yes, it is a money issue but why would people risk their business over? I once went to a restaurant and they did not welcome me at all. Guess what? I told all my friends and soon they went out of business.

  • I believe that people should think about people like Kyle and me, hell yes, for people that don't know, we DO get out of the house and yes we DO have a "normal" life. you Now about I know you're just talking about stores here, but don't forget so much stuff.

  • Stuff like restaurants, other public places, or yes, even airlines. Now more and more airlines are being cool about it (if not I'll just fly myself...no big deal...) but we seriously need to bring it to an issue.

  • I came about doing that once when I discovered that there was so such thing as a ramp. I complained and they didn't do anything. So being the "poor" kid in a wheelchair, I raised some money and build a ramp. Yes, it might get expensive but no it's not worth over a law suit or even closing down your business. That's my little spill.

  • I totaly understand your point of view. I myself am not in a wheelchair or have walking difficulties but I have a job that requires me to take people with wheelchairs and walking difficulties places and I run into that problem with them alot of places. It's not easy for me not to get upset with the store but I do sometimes back down on what I do say to them.

  • The only scars that are on my body are on my hands and on my legs from inaccessible locations. So I can fully relate with you there. I grew up in "Progressive" California and ran into those problems. But living in Ohio it seems like I am living in the 1950's in terms of accessibility at times.

  • i totaly get wat kyle was on about i have scar's on my hands because of cramped shops shelfing also in the uk no shops asistents hand u stuff so u can say wether u like the product or not i am a young ambasador for a group cald whiz-kidz basicly try ing to put things like actsess and put u on the right track job wize getting rid of predudes in work envirment can i show the powers that be of the charity some of atypical view's vids to get the ball roling

  • im actually in a semi-heated debate currently over accessibility on airlines, and was just curious on your opinion on that. the debate started as someone who wanted airlines to remove seats and make it possible for them to fly in a powerchair and has now turned into more the economics of removing seats in this day and age. i personally think its a great idea but dont see it happening anytime in the near future with our current fleet of aircraft. your input on that?
